About This Job
This role is crucial for delivering exceptional patient care during surgical procedures. As an OR Nurse PRN, you provide vital support to surgical teams, ensuring a safe and efficient operating room environment. You play a direct role in patient well-being, applying your expertise on an as-needed basis to support our dynamic surgical services. This position offers flexibility while making a significant impact on patient outcomes.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Performs Pre-operative Assessment to prepare patients for surgery, ensuring all necessary information is gathered and communicated.
  • Applies expert knowledge of Sterile Technique to maintain a sterile field throughout all surgical procedures, preventing infection.
  • Provides comprehensive Intraoperative Care, monitoring patient status, administering medications, and managing equipment during surgery.
  • Functions effectively as a Circulating Nurse, overseeing the operating room environment, advocating for patient safety, and coordinating team activities.
  • Assists surgeons with Surgical Assisting duties as needed, anticipating instrument and supply requirements to maintain surgical flow.
  • Ensures rigorous Patient Safety protocols are followed at all times, identifying and mitigating risks within the surgical setting.
  • Implements strict Infection Control measures, adhering to policies and procedures to minimize the risk of healthcare-associated infections.
  • Manages and accounts for Surgical Instruments and supplies, ensuring their availability, proper handling, and sterilization.
  • Responds to emergent situations by utilizing skills in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient care and achieve positive surgical outcomes.
Required Qualifications
Education
  • Holds a current and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
  • Possesses an Associate's Degree in Nursing (ADN) or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution.
Experience
  • Demonstrates at least two years of recent experience as a Registered Nurse in an operating room setting.
Knowledge/Skills
  • Applies comprehensive knowledge of Sterile Technique and Infection Control principles.
  • Exhibits proficiency in Intraoperative Care, Circulating Nurse duties, and Pre-operative Assessment.
  • Understands and manages Surgical Instruments effectively.
  • Prioritizes Patient Safety in all aspects of care.
  • Holds current certification in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
  • Holds current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Possesses strong communication and critical thinking skills.
  • Exhibits the ability to perform Surgical Assisting tasks as required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • Possesses Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) certification.
  • Demonstrates experience across multiple surgical specialties.
Physical Requirements/Work Conditions
  • Stands and walks for extended periods, often throughout an entire shift.
  • Lifts, pushes, and pulls patients and equipment up to 50 pounds.
  • Works in a fast-paced, high-stress environment with exposure to various medical equipment and potential hazards.
