What is a private equity internship?
What are private equity internship opportunities?
Private equity internship opportunities include positions at a variety of investment companies. These internships are somewhat geographically centralized, with opportunities being more common in heavily urbanized areas and less common in many rural regions. Depending on the characteristics of the area, you may find an internship at a bank, a local investment firm, or another type of institution. Private equity interns may help research investment opportunities, give presentations on whether or not the company should finance a project, or help full employees with miscellaneous tasks. Private equity internships are most common in the summer, when students have a break from school, but can also be found throughout the rest of the year.

- Applying private equity valuation approaches, including market, income, and asset approaches
- Building and maintaining financial models, valuation schedules, and analytical tools
- Applying quantitative and analytical techniques to identify trends, outliers, and potential data issues
- Performing sensitivity and scenario analyses to assess the impact of key assumptions on valuation conclusions
- Preparing audit support documentation for valuations
- Collaborating with audit teams across companies of all sizes and a wide range of industries
- Coordinating multiple assignments, managing deadlines, and communicating project status to senior team members
- Building strong relationships and communicating effectively with team members and clients
- Presenting complex information clearly and confidently
- Contributing to the development and implementation of technology-enabled valuation solutions that improve efficiency through automation and standardization
- Staying current on market developments, valuation trends, and emerging technologies relevant to financial instrument valuations
- Participating in training and professional development opportunities to build technical, industry, and business skills
You'll have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience working alongside experienced professionals across diverse industries while developing skills in valuation, financial analysis and quantitative methods.
A successful candidate would possess these skills:
