Job Summary
Works under Prisma Health Ambulance Service with daily direction from the on-duty charge nurse and attending Physician. Assesses and treats patients according to clinical operating guidelines. Serves as a member of the healthcare team through active communication; documentation; feedback and assistance as needed or requested. Provides for patient safety. Attend meetings and in-services as required by departmental policy. Contributes to the growth and development of self and department. Maintains an active involvement. Maintains good working relationship with patients, visitors, physicians, co-workers, and other hospital staff. Maintains competence with charting system.
Essential Functions
  • All team members are expected to be knowledgeable and compliant with Prisma Health's purpose: Inspire health. Serve with compassion. Be the difference.
  • Collects data and completes patient's orders utilizing appropriate area and/or age specific standards/policies and tools. Completes appropriate forms.
  • Assesses and recognizes subtle or actual changes in patients' status and patient response to intervention.
  • Identifies patient priorities for patient plan of care and validates these priorities with the healthcare team members and documents appropriately.
  • Performs specific tasks based on organizational, departmental and/or unit policies and procedures within the Paramedic scope of practice.
  • Assumes responsibility for patient safety by maintaining a safe environment to include awareness of safety procedures, protocols and adherence to patient care standards.
  • Provides care based on patient and unit priorities, coordinating and organizing tasks as appropriate, utilizing known resources internal and external to the unit.
  • Utilizes appropriate technology in daily practice (EHR, Pyxis, Telemetry, emergency equipment).
  • Identifies/assesses patient/family learning needs.
  • Participates in continuous quality improvement (CQI) initiatives.
  • Attends meetings and in services as required by departmental policy.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities
  • This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.

Minimum Requirements
  • Education - Certification Program.
  • Experience - One (1) year of experience as a field paramedic with an EMS agency and/or clinical experience in a hospital.
