Job Description:
The Laboratory Assistant is responsible for greeting the laboratory patients, order entry, blood and urine specimen collection, preparation of specimens for testing, storage and/or export and preparation of reports.
Essential Functions
1.Demonstrates safe and competent use of equipment and software to carry out duties.
2.Prioritize workflow by medical necessity and priority.
3.Answers telephone inquiries including specimen requirement information.
4.Prepares reports for export or storage as required.
5.Demonstrate professional customer service skills while registering patient and performing blood and urine collections according to procedures including following age specific guidelines for collection. This includes therapeutic phlebotomies, paternity testing, and drug screens.
6.Prepares specimens for testing, storage or export according to procedures including resolution of any specimen and/or order discrepancies.
7.Performs billing functions timely.
8.Orders department supplies from Material Management for maintaining specimen collection kits, trays and office supplies.
9.Maintains a sanitary conditions and practices isolation procedures and protocols.
10.Orient new lab aide employees as required.
