Job description

Principal Electrical Power Market Engineer (FTR)

As our Principal Electrical Power Market Engineer, you will help MISO carry out an efficient and fair Financial Transmission Rights Market to deliver on our vision of being the most reliable, value creating Regional Transmission Operator (RTO).

Additionally, as our Principal Electrical Power Market Engineer, you will be part of the team which collaborates with many other areas within MISO including modeling, planning, outage coordination, credit, settlements, and operations teams. You will help the team administer one of the energy markets which provides an opportunity to hedge against the volatility of transmission congestion charges that load serving entities face in the Dayโ€‘Ahead Energy and Operating Reserves Market.

You will also have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects ranging from process automation to implementing groundโ€‘breaking changes to help ensure the MISO Financial Transmission Rights Market continues to provide value as increased renewable energy is integrated into the grid.

Responsibilities

In one year as our Principal Electrical Power Market Engineer, you will know you were successful if:

  • you carry out existing processes such as validating and analyzing models to independently carry out a Financial Transmission Rights monthly auction
  • you collaborate with others to implement process improvements and transformative changes
Education

We are looking for hardworking engineers who have at least a Bachelorโ€™s degree in any of the following:

  • Electrical Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering Technology
  • Electrical and Computer Engineering
  • Electrical and Electronic Engineering
  • Electronics and Computer Engineering Technology
Experience

We are looking for our ideal engineer who has at least eight years of related work experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Twelve years of related energy industry work experience
  • Four years of related Financial Transmission Rights market, Dayโ€‘Ahead Energy market, or Realโ€‘time energy market design, operations, administration, or trading experience
  • Four years of related realโ€‘time or market operations experience as an operator
  • Power flow analysis and congestion forecasting experience
  • Programming, automation, and data analytics experience
  • NERC certification

Appropriate level will be determined based upon experience and knowledge.

The base salary compensation range being offered for this role is $152,000.00 โ€“ $177,000.00 USD annually. Base salary range for this position is included in accordance with requirements of various state/local pay transparency legislation. Please note that salaries may vary for different individuals in the same role based on several factors, including but not limited to location of the role, individual competencies, education/professional certifications, and qualifications/experience.

Position is also eligible for an annual bonus if individual performance and company objectives are met. At MISO we offer a comprehensive benefits package, including 401k, vacation, sick and safe time, available on your first day of employment.
