Position Overview

Deerfield Construction is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Pre-Construction Manager to join our estimating department. This role is critical to the success of our projects, responsible for developing accurate, competitive cost estimates and supporting pre-construction efforts from concept through bid submission.

The ideal candidate brings a strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and market conditions, along with the ability to analyze project documents and communicate effectively with internal teams, subcontractors, and clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze construction drawings, specifications, and bid documents to develop detailed scopes of work
  • Prepare comprehensive and accurate cost estimates for commercial construction projects
  • Solicit, evaluate, and level subcontractor and supplier proposals
  • Develop and maintain unit pricing and historical cost data
  • Collaborate with project management and leadership teams during pre-construction planning
  • Participate in bid reviews, presentations, and proposal development
  • Identify value engineering opportunities to enhance cost efficiency without compromising quality
  • Monitor market trends, material pricing, and labor conditions to ensure competitive positioning

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in construction estimating or pre-construction services
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field is preferred
  • Strong knowledge of commercial construction methods, materials, and industry practices
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and negotiation abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy and accountability
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team
