Job Summary:

Prairie View Healthcare Center is currently looking for a Cook to join our dietary department. We believe breakfast, lunch and dinner should be healthy, delicious and fun. Our enhanced dining program provides culinary excellence.

Essential Functions:

  • Prepare pre-planned cycle menus in an efficient and effective manner
  • Perform food preparation tasks as assigned.
  • Ability to read production orders on tray cards
  • Determine if the food prepared is of the highest possible quality in taste and flavor. Assist in planning cooking schedules. Confirm foods are ready on time for tray service.
  • Maintain and improve standards of food storage, preparation, and services.
  • Assist in checking food supplies on food order forms 
  • Pushes carts to halls or kitchen
  • Maintains cleanliness and orderliness 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrates knowledge of food preparation, sanitation, hygienic methods of food preparation and storage.
  • Interpersonal skills 
  • Demonstrates competency in operating kitchen equipment.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting (50-pound maximum), bending, reaching, and stooping.

Education, Licensure, and Experience:

  • Required: Current Food Handlers card (or ability to obtain one) issued by local Health Department.
  • Preferred: Prior cooking experience in a skilled nursing environment.
