As of Jun 9, 2026, the average yearly pay for open liquor store in the United States is $61,835.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $42,000.00 and $80,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are some common challenges faced when opening and managing a liquor store?

Opening and managing a liquor store often involves navigating complex licensing requirements, staying compliant with local and state alcohol regulations, and managing inventory to meet customer demand while minimizing waste. Store owners also face competition from other retailers and must develop effective marketing strategies to attract and retain customers. Additionally, building strong relationships with suppliers and maintaining a knowledgeable, customer-focused staff are key to long-term success in this industry.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Liquor Store Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Liquor Store Manager, you need strong knowledge of retail operations, inventory management, and applicable state alcohol regulations, often supported by experience or certification in retail management. Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems, inventory tracking software, and compliance tools is typically required. Excellent customer service, leadership, and problem-solving skills make someone stand out in this role. These competencies ensure efficient store operations, regulatory compliance, and a positive customer experience, which are crucial for business success.

Open Liquor Store refers to the business itself, involving store operations, management, and ownership. Liquor Store Clerks are employees working within these stores, handling sales, customer service, and inventory. While both roles are part of the retail liquor industry, the store owner or operator manages the business, whereas clerks focus on daily customer interactions and sales.

What job makes $10,000 a month without a degree?

A job at an open liquor store typically does not pay $10,000 a month without a degree; such high earnings are uncommon in retail positions. High-paying jobs that can reach this level often require specialized skills, experience, or entrepreneurship, such as sales, real estate, or starting a business. Most roles with this income level usually involve significant responsibility or investment.

What are the requirements to open a liquor store?

To open a liquor store, you typically need to obtain the appropriate retail liquor license from your state or local alcohol regulatory agency. The process often involves background checks, submitting detailed business plans, and ensuring your store meets zoning and safety regulations. Requirements vary by location, but you may also need to complete training on responsible alcohol sales, pay licensing fees, and comply with ongoing reporting and inspection mandates. It's important to research your specific state's laws, as some have strict limits on the number or location of liquor licenses available.
