What is a Poweron programmer?

Poweron Programmers are specialized software developers who work with the PowerOn scripting language, primarily used within the Temenos Infinity (formerly Fiserv DNA) core banking platform. They design, develop, and maintain scripts that automate banking processes, create custom reports, and integrate third-party services. These professionals play a key role in tailoring the platform to meet the unique needs of financial institutions, ensuring efficient and secure operations. Poweron Programmers typically collaborate closely with business analysts and IT teams to implement solutions that enhance banking products and services.

What are some typical projects a Poweron programmer might work on, and how do they interact with other teams?

As a Poweron Programmer, you'll often develop and maintain custom scripts and automation solutions using the PowerOn language, primarily for clients in the utilities and energy sectors. Projects may involve implementing billing logic, automating business processes, or integrating new metering systems. Collaboration is key—you'll regularly work with business analysts to clarify requirements, QA teams to ensure script accuracy, and system administrators to deploy your solutions. This cross-functional interaction helps ensure the end product meets both technical and business needs, making communication skills as important as technical expertise.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Poweron programmer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Poweron Programmer, you need a solid understanding of programming concepts, experience with PowerOn scripting language, and often a background in finance or banking systems. Familiarity with core banking platforms like Symitar Episys, version control tools, and relevant certifications are typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are valuable soft skills for success in this role.
