Role: Symitar PowerOn Developer
Descriptions:
(Core Banking - Episys Platform)
1. Technical Core Skills
Symitar / Core Banking
• Strong hands-on experience with Symitar Episys Core platform
• Advanced PowerOn scripting and development for custom business logic, batch jobs, and automation
• Understanding of Symitar data structures, files, and subsystems (Accounts, Loans, Deposits, GL, etc.)
Programming & Scripting
• PowerOn language (must-have)
• SQL (data extraction, joins, reporting)
• JavaScript (commonly via PowerForms) - preferred
• Exposure to Python or other scripting languages (nice to have)
Batch & Automation
• OpCon workload automation (job scheduling, dependencies, monitoring)
• File transfers, batch processing, and operational workflows
Integration & APIs (Preferred)
• SymConnect / SymXchange APIs
• Third-party integrations (loan origination, payments, imaging, reporting tools)
2. Key Job Duties & Responsibilities
PowerOn Development & Support
• Design, develop, enhance, and support custom PowerOn programs embedded in Episys core processing
• Modernize and refactor legacy PowerOn code to improve performance, maintainability, and reliability
• Build new workflows and automations based on business and operational needs
Business & Requirements Engagement
• Work directly with business users and operations teams to gather and translate requirements into technical solutions
• Analyze downstream impact of PowerOn changes across reports, interfaces, and Symitar modules
Operations, Automation & Batch
• Create, modify, and support OpCon jobs for batch execution, scheduling, and dependencies
• Troubleshoot batch failures, sequencing issues, and production incidents
Production Support & Troubleshooting
• Perform root cause analysis for PowerOn-related production issues
• Support core processing cycles, month-end/year-end processing, and audits
Upgrades, Compliance & Governance
• Assist with Symitar upgrades, testing, and post-upgrade validation
• Ensure adherence to change control, audit, security, and regulatory standards
• Maintain technical documentation and operational runbooks
3. Domain & Soft Skills
• Strong knowledge of credit union / banking operations
• Analytical thinking, attention to detail, and problem-solving
• Ability to work independently in production-critical environments
• Clear communication with IT, operations, and business stakeholders
4. Typical Experience Profile
• 8+ years of Symitar PowerOn development experience (senior roles)
• Background in core banking system support or financial services IT
