Job Description

Vitol is seeking a Compliance Analyst - Power Trading to join its Houston-based Trading Compliance team. This role will support the execution of the Compliance function across Vitol's U.S. power and natural gas trading activities, with a focus on trade surveillance, regulatory reporting, monitoring, and advisory support across both physical and financial markets.

The successful candidate will work closely with commercial, operations, legal, risk, and other support teams, and will play an important role in helping ensure compliance with applicable FERC, CFTC, exchange, and other relevant regulatory requirements. This is an excellent opportunity for a compliance professional with several years of relevant experience to deepen their expertise in U.S. energy trading and market regulation within a dynamic commercial environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform day-to-day monitoring and surveillance of physical and financial power and gas trading activity
  • Support compliance processes designed to ensure adherence with applicable FERC, CFTC, exchange, and other relevant regulatory requirements
  • Assist with the preparation, review, and submission of regulatory filings and external compliance reports
  • Research and monitor regulatory developments impacting U.S. power and gas markets and communicate key updates to relevant stakeholders
  • Provide compliance guidance and practical support to commercial and support teams on trading-related matters
  • Support responses to regulatory inquiries, examinations, audits, and information requests
  • Assist with the enhancement of compliance controls, surveillance tools, exception reporting, and related analytical processes
  • Draft, maintain, and update compliance policies, procedures, and internal guidance documents
  • Participate in new product and new activity reviews to assess regulatory and reputational risks
  • Support internal reviews, investigations, and ad hoc compliance projects as needed
  • Promote a strong culture of compliance, integrity, and ethical conduct across the business
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required; relevant graduate degree or JD is a plus
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in energy compliance, trade surveillance, regulatory reporting, market regulation, risk, legal, or a related control function
  • Experience in US power markets required
  • Understanding of physical and financial power trading
  • Familiarity with relevant regulatory frameworks, including FERC, CFTC, exchange rules, and ISO/RTO market structures; exposure to NERC requirements is a plus
  • Understanding of market fundamentals, trading structures, and pricing relationships in U.S. power and gas markets
  • Experience supporting monitoring, surveillance, regulatory filings, or responses to regulatory inquiries preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel required
  • Experience with data analysis tools and programming languages such as Python or R is a plus
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and exercise sound judgment in a fast-paced environment
