Why ExxonMobil's Americas Gas & Power Trading
Most financial trading seats are either pure financial shops trading screens and published data or utility/IPP desks managing a narrow asset position. It is rare to have a power seat embedded in a platform that trades both sides of the gas-power linkage at scale.
This is a role for someone who wants to operate at the center of a growing platform - building a power book with the kind of cross-commodity intelligence, infrastructure access, and institutional staying power that most pure-play trading firms simply cannot replicate. ExxonMobil offers competitive total compensation, world-class benefits, and the kind of career continuity and a long-term investment in people that most trading shops simply do not offer.
What role you will play in our team
ExxonMobil's Americas Gas & Power Trading group is looking for a Sr. Financial Power Trader to join our platform, running a point of view financial power book across major North American ISOs. This is a senior seat at one of the largest energy companies in the world, backed by a material gas and power position, and the cross-commodity intelligence that comes from trading both commodities. You will trade a point of view across power curves, spreads, congestion, and heat rates grounded in fundamental insight, and the gas-power linkage that defines today's market. This is a P&L owning seat with the mandate to scale across the broader business.
What you will do
  • Run a point of view driven financial power book across ERCOT, MISO (specifically South Region), and PJM as appropriate, expressing views through flat price, spreads, heat rates, congestion.
  • Develop trading strategies that capture the gas-power linkages, leveraging Exxon's structural equity positions and the platform's broader fundamental view.
  • Partner with our Analytics team to build and maintain quantitative tools and fundamental models - generation stack analysis, renewable penetration, load forecast, congestion analytics - to support disciplined decision make
  • Manage risk actively across vol, spread, basis and directional exposures, with systematic sizing and tail-risk protection.
  • Collaborate with gas traders, market analytics, origination, and risk teams to ensure the power book reflects the full information set.
  • Contribute to the build-out of the power trading capability as the Americas Gas & Power platform continues to scale.

About you
  • 10+ years of financial power trading experience at an energy marketer, bank, merchant, hedge fund, or producer with direct P&L and a demonstrable track record.
  • Proven performance across a mix of strategies with evidence of consistent risk-adjusted returns.
  • Deep fundamental grounding in North American power markets: generation stack dynamics, renewable penetration, load and weather drivers, transmission constraints, regulatory developments and ISO market design.
  • Expert experience creating, interpreting and managing a forward fixed price, heat rate and basis curve.
  • Comfortable working with dedicated Quant teams building python-based tools for fundamentals, pricing, signal generation, and risk.
  • Ability to interpret pricing model results and understand input assumptions - proactive monitor and provide feedback for continuous model improvement.
  • Expert understanding of the gas-power linkage and the ability to integrate gas fundamentals into a power trading view.
  • Disciplined risk management instincts and a track record of performing across different market regimes.
  • Advanced knowledge of Risk Management/Assessment measures - V@R, draw down, position limits, NOP, MtM and cash variance
  • Senior mindset: able to operate independently, mentor junior talent, and contribute to the strategic direction of the book.
  • Experience explaining and delivering complex topics in simple and understandable terms
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degrees in a quantitative energy-focused field a plus.
