Job Summary
Responsible for reviewing and approving equipment removal for maintenance on the AEP distribution system, stations and sub-transmission as assigned; for coordination of these activities with the various departments of the Company involved; and notification to proper personnel regarding outages. Responsible for assisting in the supervision of personnel in carrying out the safe, efficient and continuous operation of the distribution system.

Job Description
What You'll Do:
  • Promote and support the Company's Safety and Health programs, company and department procedures, and Corporate Compliance expectations.
  • Coordinate distribution system operations, service restoration, prearranged switching for construction and maintenance, and safe real-time dispatch center activities.
  • Verify the accuracy of switching orders for the removal and restoration of distribution lines and station equipment as assigned, ensuring all safety and departmental policies are followed.
  • Prepare switching orders that identify required steps and safety tagging for removing equipment from service for maintenance, repair, or construction while protecting the public, company equipment, and company and contract personnel.
  • Provide technical guidance to support work performed in accordance with established practices and expectations.
  • Coordinate service restoration following emergency or unplanned outages in accordance with safe operating practices.
  • Approve and coordinate facility outages, loadings, and operating voltage levels with appropriate distribution and transmission personnel.
  • Support the preparation of logs and records to maintain a clear history of operational activities.
  • Notify appropriate designated personnel of abnormal and emergency conditions.
  • Support training and provide operational guidance to dispatching and field employees as assigned.
  • Lead dispatching coordination during restoration events and support timely, accountable decision-making during normal, abnormal, and emergency system conditions.

What You'll Need:
Education: Associate degree in electrical or electronic technology, bachelor's degree in any field, or equivalent education and/or experience.
Experience: Minimum of three years of experience as an electric system operator. Successful completion of the System Operations/Power Dispatch (SOPD) and Data Entry tests is required. Must maintain high availability for callout response and be able to work under pressure during critical system conditions while managing multiple priorities. Must possess strong organization, communication, conflict resolution, and team-building skills. Demonstrates technical leadership by reinforcing safety codes, regulatory requirements, business standards, approved operating procedures, switching and tagging expectations, outage coordination processes, logging requirements, and communication protocols. Supports DDC consistency through procedural discipline, documentation quality, cross-shift alignment, and customer-focused operations.
Career Progression
This role supports career progression by developing technical expertise, switching and outage coordination capability, documentation discipline, communication skills, and emergency response judgment. With appropriate approval, experience in this position may support advancement into a Senior Coordinator role and future leadership opportunities.
