Senior Supplier Quality Engineer

Role Overview

The Senior Supplier Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring that Mitsubishi Power products and services meet quality, regulatory, and customer requirements through effective application of QA/QC principles. This role provides oversight of supplier quality, manufacturing processes, and inspection programs supporting power generation equipment across gas turbines, steam turbines, HRSGs, generators, and associated systems. The position serves as a key interface between engineering, sourcing, and suppliers to ensure consistent product quality and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply QA/QC principles to ensure product and service quality meets customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Support Mitsubishi Power Quality Management System (QMS) processes and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Develop project quality inspection budgets and manage adherence.
  • Lead and perform supplier qualification audits, including development of audit programs and cross-functional assessments.
  • Perform in-process and final inspections of materials and equipment (structural weldments, machined components, assemblies, electrical systems) at supplier locations.
  • Manage Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and corrective action processes through resolution and effectiveness verification.
  • Determine root cause analysis methodologies and implement corrective/preventive actions.
  • Review technical procurement specifications to extract and define quality requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with codes and standards such as ASME, ASTM, and applicable welding and fabrication standards.
  • Develop and maintain quality specifications for mechanical and structural systems.
  • Review supplier procedures to ensure compliance with contractual, regulatory, and engineering requirements.
  • Collaborate with Global Sourcing to monitor procurements and ensure quality criteria are met.
  • Prepare, review, and distribute inspection reports and quality documentation.
  • Review inspection and test plans to validate hold and witness points.
  • Obtain and review supplier quality records and maintain documentation within the document control system.
  • Support vendor interface activities and ensure compliance with division of responsibility requirements.
  • Travel domestically and internationally (up to ~70%) to perform audits, inspections, and supplier evaluations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Structural Engineering or related field required.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in manufacturing, quality, or power generation equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of power plant equipment including turbines, HRSGs, pressure vessels, and structural systems.
  • Experience interpreting engineering drawings and inspection requirements.
  • Hands-on experience with inspection tools and methods.
  • Knowledge of welding technologies and standards (ASME, ASTM, CWB, etc.).
  • Experience with supplier audits, quality systems, and regulatory compliance.
  • Professional certifications such as CWI, CQE, or NDT preferred or ability to obtain.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and root cause investigation skills.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work across global teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and quality/documentation systems.
  • Ability to travel internationally as required.
