Job description

GAI Consultants, Inc. is seeking an Engineer 1 to work with the Power Generation Business Sector on primarily renewable energy projects and when needed other regional projects. GAI Consultants, Inc. offers its employees, upon approval by supervisors, the ability to work remotely or in a hybrid settings. The successful candidate will enjoy working in a team-oriented environment that will utilize their college education and past work experience to develop professionally into a well-rounded engineer with the ability to grow in today's environment.
Your responsibilities in this position will include civil site work, including design, permitting, construction activities as well as beginning to develop client management and business development strategies.
The candidate should be driven and be seeking the opportunity to:
  • Work on energy-related projects with a focus on renewables
  • Assist with leading civil site engineering tasks
  • Assist with interfacing with clients on civil site tasks
  • Assist with leading assigned project teams
  • Assist with development of civil site proposals
  • Assist with task management on assigned projects (schedules, budgets, and quality of work)

The candidate will work on civil site engineering tasks including:
  • Site Grading Plans
  • Erosion and Sediment Control Plans
  • Stormwater Management Plans
  • Hydrologic and Hydraulic / Drainage Plans
  • Utility Design and Relocation Plans
  • Maintenance and Protection of Traffic Plans
  • Geotechnical Investigations
  • Permit Applications (earth disturbance permits, building permits, land development plans, high occupancy permits, etc.)
  • Access Road Section Development
  • Construction Drawings, Specifications, and Quality Control Plans
  • Construction Cost Estimates
  • Owner's Engineer Support During Construction
  • Field Investigations

General Characteristics
  • Applies broad knowledge of principles and practices in a specific practice area.
  • Independently evaluates, selects, and adapts standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • May act in responsible charge of projects. Acquires general knowledge of principles and practices of related fields, and ability to function on multidisciplinary teams.
  • Applies leadership and teamwork skills to effectively plan, execute, and manage scopes, schedules, and budgets to meet project stakeholder needs.

Minimum Years of Experience
  • 4+ years of experience.

Education
  • B.S. Engineering

Certification/Licensure
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) License

Technical Responsibilities
  • Designs a complete project, system, component, or process.
  • Prepares complete plans, specifications, and other project documents.
  • Designs and conducts investigations. Analyzes and interprets test data.

Project and Task Management
  • Assigns tasks to and directs other technical and non-technical staff.
  • Plans and coordinates detailed aspects of the engineering work.
  • Prepares scopes, budgets, and schedules for assignments.
  • Assists with proposals to provide professional services or obtain funding for engineering projects or programs.

Management Responsibility
  • Receives general direction on key objectives. Receives guidance, when necessary, on unconventional/complex problems, direction on modified techniques, and new approaches on assignments with conflicting criteria.
  • Assists with mentored experience to direct reports and junior staff through providing guidance, explaining professional responsibilities, and reviewing work products.
  • Attends project meetings and presents specific aspects of engineering assignments.

Communication Skills
  • Communicates effectively to both technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Demonstrates empathy and critical listening skills.
