Position Specific Description
Serve as the technical authority and compliance lead for several NERC PRC standards applicable to NextEra Energy Power Generation Division (PGD) assets, including Wind, Solar PV sites, and Battery energy storage systems. This role ensures protection systems, relay settings, maintenance/testing programs, and disturbance monitoring meet mandatory PRC requirements and support PGD's reliability and audit readiness objectives.
Key Responsibilities Will Include the Following:
Governance and Compliance
  • Own PGD's PRC compliance program for standards such as PRC 002, PRC 004, PRC 005, PRC 019, PRC 024 and emerging IBR standards (PRC 028/029/030).
  • Maintain audit-ready documentation (RSAWs, evidence logs) and internal controls.

Engineering and Technical Leadership
  • Validate relay settings and coordination for PGD's Wind, Solar PV sites, and Battery energy storage systems.
  • Lead misoperation investigations and corrective actions per PRC 004.
  • Supports understanding of the Protection System Maintenance Program (PSMP) for relays, CT/VTs, DC supplies, and communication channels per PRC 005.
  • Implement disturbance monitoring solutions for and inverter-based resources (IBR) per PRC 002/028.
  • Ensure generator ride-through compliance for PGD fleet per PRC 019/024 and emerging IBR standards PRC-028/029/030

Fleet Integration and Stakeholder Engagement
  • Act as PGD's liaison during audits and spot checks.

Continuous Improvement
  • Develop dashboards for PRC compliance (maintenance intervals, misoperation trends, coordination review cycles).
  • Automate evidence collection and relay setting workflows where feasible.

Desired Qualifications
  • PE preferred.
  • 2+ years in protection engineering and NERC compliance for generation assets.
  • Expertise in PRC standards and inverter-based resource protection requirements.
  • Familiarity with tools like ASPEN/CAPE, PSSE/PSLF, and relay setting management systems.
