A typical day in Arduino Programming might include writing and testing code to control hardware devices, troubleshooting and debugging circuits, and collaborating with engineers or product designers to develop prototypes. You may also work with various sensors, actuators, and communication modules to create custom embedded systems solutions. Team meetings and documentation of your code and hardware configurations are common aspects of the workflow. This hands-on work environment requires both creative problem-solving and attention to technical details, making each project unique and rewarding.
An Arduino Programming job involves writing and debugging code for Arduino microcontrollers to control hardware components like sensors, motors, and displays. Professionals in this role typically use C/C++ and the Arduino IDE to create automation, IoT devices, or prototypes. They may work on tasks such as designing circuits, optimizing code for efficiency, and troubleshooting hardware-software interactions. This job is common in industries like robotics, home automation, and embedded systems development.
To thrive in Arduino Programming, you need a solid grasp of embedded C/C++ programming, electronics, and microcontroller fundamentals, often supported by a degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or a related field. Experience with the Arduino IDE, circuit design software, and familiarity with sensors and actuators is highly beneficial, as are relevant certifications like Arduino Fundamentals. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective collaboration and communication skills distinguish top performers. These competencies are essential for designing reliable, innovative solutions and successfully integrating hardware and software components in real-world projects.

Miami Country Day School is seeking a collaborative, creative, and forward-thinking Middle School Innovation Teacher to join the Garner Center for Innovation (GCI). This role is ideal for an educator who is passionate about engineering, design thinking, robotics, computer science, and emerging technologies, and who enjoys inspiring students through hands-on, project-based learning.
Working as part of the PK3–12 Innovation and Fabrication Pathway, the Middle School Innovation Teacher partners with classroom teachers and fellow GCI faculty to create interdisciplinary learning experiences that integrate engineering, coding, artificial intelligence, digital fabrication, entrepreneurship, and product development. The teacher also mentors students as they develop original inventions and innovative solutions through the school's Entrepreneurship, Invention & Innovation (EI²) program.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:Teach engineering, design thinking, coding, robotics, AI, and digital fabrication through authentic, hands-on projects.
Introduce students to programming using platforms such as Scratch, Blockly, Python, Arduino, and other emerging technologies.
Guide students in the safe and effective use of makerspace tools, including 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC machines, woodworking equipment, and CAD software.
Collaborate with classroom teachers and GCI colleagues to integrate innovation and engineering concepts across the curriculum.
Mentor 3–5 students annually through the EI² program, supporting them as they design, prototype, fabricate, brand, and present original products or inventions.
Help maintain a safe, organized, and innovative makerspace environment.
Contribute to PK3–12 curriculum development, shared instructional resources, and school-wide innovation initiatives.
Participate in STEM events, innovation showcases, workshops, and other Garner Center for Innovation programming.
Bachelor's degree and 4+ years in STEM Education, Engineering, Educational Technology, Robotics, Technology Education, or a related field.
Teaching experience in STEM, engineering, robotics, innovation, computer science, or a related discipline preferred.
Experience designing and delivering project-based, collaborative learning experiences.
Passion for innovation and a commitment to inspiring curiosity, creativity, and problem-solving in students.
Strong technical aptitude and enthusiasm for learning new technologies.
Experience with—or a willingness to learn—tools and technologies such as:
Python, Java, Arduino, Raspberry Pi
LEGO SPIKE Prime and educational robotics platforms
Fusion 360, Tinkercad, Adobe Illustrator, LightBurn
AI tools and applications
3D printing, laser cutting, CNC machining, and woodworking
At Miami Country Day School, innovation is more than a subject, it's a mindset. As a member of the Garner Center for Innovation, you'll help shape one of the nation's leading PK3–12 innovation programs while collaborating with passionate educators and inspiring students to become creative thinkers, problem solvers, and future innovators. If you're excited about blending technology, engineering, entrepreneurship, and education, we'd love to hear from you.
