Job description

Description:

The Poultry Veterinarian – Layers is a forward-thinking, field-based technical role at the intersection of veterinary science, data-driven decision-making, and customer success. This position serves as a trusted technical partner for layer producers, integrators, and the Devenish commercial team — leveraging modern diagnostic tools, digital platforms, and Devenish’s innovative product portfolio to help layer operations thrive.

You will be the veterinary face of Devenish in the layer space: conducting flock health assessments, supporting Account Managers with science-backed solutions, and using technology to deliver a customer experience that sets Devenish apart. This is not just a consulting role — it is a strategic partnership role for someone who genuinely cares about flock performance, producer profitability, food safety, and the future of sustainable egg production.

Core Responsibilities

Commercial Success & Field Support

  • Partner with Devenish Account Managers and Nutritionists to deliver proactive, consultative veterinary support to current customers and high-potential prospects in the layer sector.
  • Conduct health surveys, flock assessments, and posting sessions with key accounts, with a focus on disease prevention, welfare, and food safety throughout the production cycle.
  • Translate customer challenges into tailored Devenish solutions — turning technical value into clear, measurable ROI for the producer.
  • Stay current on competitive products and services, and clearly articulate what sets Devenish apart.
  • Pursue veterinary consultation services with a select group of prospective customers, identifying opportunities to expand Devenish’s technical footprint in the layer segment.

Research, Innovation & Product Development

  • Contribute to Poultry Sales and Technical meetings to help shape research priorities aligned with market needs.
  • Provide on-the-ground field intelligence to inform product development and identify emerging opportunities in the layer space.
  • Collaborate with Marketing, Sales, and Technical teams to develop accurate, compelling, and evidence-based product materials and usage guidelines.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Customer Service, Operations, and administrative staff to ensure seamless, efficient delivery of technical services.
  • Develop deep expertise across Devenish’s full technology portfolio, with emphasis on nutritional and health applications relevant to layer production.
  • Continuously evaluate new product and service opportunities to expand Devenish’s value proposition in the layer sector.

Technology as a Competitive Advantage:

At Devenish, we believe the best technical veterinarians are also skilled innovators. In this role, you will be expected to:

  • Use digital health monitoring tools and data analytics platforms to identify flock trends, flag risks early, and deliver insights that go beyond traditional veterinary visits.
  • Support customers in adopting digital tools that improve flock performance tracking, biosecurity protocols, and intervention timing.
  • Deliver customer-facing reporting via digital dashboards that demonstrates the real-time impact of Devenish programs on flock health and production performance.
  • Deliver virtual consultations, remote flock health reviews, and diagnostic follow-ups using video and collaboration platforms.
  • Stay current with precision poultry technologies (flock monitoring systems, diagnostic apps, egg quality analytics) to speak the language of today’s layer producers.

What We Offer:

  • A collaborative, innovation-driven culture built on science and partnership.
  • Competitive compensation plus performance-based incentives.
  • Full benefits package including health, dental, vision, and retirement.
  • Vehicle allowance plus fuel reimbursement for business travel.
  • Ongoing professional development, CE opportunities, product training, and access to Devenish’s global R&D resources.
  • A genuine opportunity to grow your career alongside a company that is shaping the future of animal nutrition.
Requirements:

Core Skills & Knowledge

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) with licensure in good standing. Additional poultry focused training such as Masters of Avian Medicine (or similar) is desirable.
  • In-depth knowledge of poultry diseases, poultry physiology, flock health management, and egg production systems.
  • Strong technical acumen — ability to translate complex veterinary and nutritional science into practical guidance for producers at every level of sophistication.
  • Exceptional communicator — confident presenting to veterinarians, producers, nutritionists, and executives alike.
  • Strong commercial acumen-ability to identify opportunities, support the sales process, and build lasting client relationships.
  • Self-directed with outstanding time and territory management skills.
  • Collaborative, customer-first mindset with the drive to build long-term producer relationships.

Technology & Tools

  • Comfort working with farm data platforms, diagnostic tools, and digital reporting — or a genuine enthusiasm to learn.
  • Proficiency with digital collaboration tools (Microsoft Teams, Zoom, shared dashboards).
  • Ability to interpret and present data-driven flock performance reports to customers.
  • Openness to adopting new agri-tech and precision poultry tools as they emerge.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in commercial poultry, with a strong preference for layer or egg production systems.
  • Background in industry, feed company, or integrated poultry operations highly preferred.
  • Established network of contacts within the commercial egg, pullet, or layer integration industry.
  • Experience with digital trial documentation, diagnostic platforms, or farm management software is a plus.
