Key Responsibilities:
  • As a Boiler Room or Stationary Engineer Technician you will work in the fast-paced San Francisco Technical Operation Facilities department. The Boiler Room Technician plays a very important role in providing quality service to our internal customers. Technician should have strong proven understanding and abilities to operate stationary gas fired boilers and auxiliary equipment. Boiler operation and maintenance, economizers, boiler safety and control devices, combustion principles, pumps and compressors, water treatment, safety and relief valves, physics and chemistry
  • Operates, maintains, and inspects automatic gas fired high pressure steam or high temperature hot water boilers
  • Adjusts, maintains and tests boiler and mechanical, electrical or pneumatic control instruments and safety devices
  • Tests boiler water, cooling tower and water from other systems, and takes any vital corrective action, such as adding chemicals to prevent corrosion and harmful deposits
  • Make all vital adjustments to keep accurate water treatment parameters
  • Maintain daily logs of operation, maintenance, and safety activities, including test results, instrument readings, and details of equipment malfunctions and maintenance work
  • Monitor and inspect equipment, energy management computer, switches, valves, gauges, alarms, safety devices, and meters to detect leaks or malfunctions, and to ensure that equipment is operating efficiently and safely
  • Understanding paragraphs in work-related documents
  • Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
  • Must be available to work around the clock shifts, including weekends and holidays, in the outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Technicians may bid for schedules several times a year and schedules are awarded according to seniority
  • Boiler Room Technicians are represented by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT)
  • Salary increases will be coordinated according to the current IBT/United contract.
  • There is an initiation fee for joining the union and subsequent monthly union dues which are set by the Local Lodge

Qualifications
What's needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):
  • Must have a high school diploma/GED or education equivalent
  • Twelve months experience required as a Boiler operator or stationary engineer
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Valid US driver's license (revoked, suspended or expired are not considered valid)
  • Must pass 10-year background check
  • Must be willing to take a pre-placement physical abilities' test, hearing and vision tests, and drug screen
  • Candidate will need to clear a fingerprint-based criminal history check in order to obtain and retain credentials necessary for the position
  • Position-specific clearances may include but are not limited to FAA, TSA, Port Authority, U.S. Customs and U.S. Postal service clearances required
  • Overtime available/required depending upon operational need
