Job description

Job Summary
We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer who is a strong hands-on coder and can independently design, develop, and deliver scalable backend services for a Marketplace Shopping platform. The ideal candidate will have deep experience with Java, Spring Boot, microservices, and distributed systems, along with a strong understanding of system design and production-scale applications. This role requires an engineer who can take ownership of complex technical problems, make sound architectural decisions, participate in technical design discussions, and drive solutions from design through implementation and production. The candidate should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with ambiguous requirements and demonstrate strong technical judgment, problem-solving, and ownership.
Key Responsibilities
• Design, develop, and deliver scalable backend services for the Marketplace Shopping platform.
• Develop robust backend applications using Java, Spring Boot, and microservices architectures.
• Design and implement distributed systems capable of supporting production-scale workloads.
• Take ownership of complex technical problems and independently drive solutions from design through production.
• Participate in system design, architecture, and technical design discussions.
• Develop event-driven solutions using Kafka and related messaging technologies.
• Design and implement reliable, scalable, and maintainable backend services.
• Work with relational databases, including PostgreSQL, to develop and optimize data-driven applications.
• Troubleshoot complex production issues and implement effective long-term solutions.
• Evaluate system performance and identify opportunities for performance optimization and scalability improvements.
• Collaborate with engineers, architects, product teams, and other stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions.
• Work effectively with ambiguous requirements and independently determine appropriate technical approaches.
• Contribute to engineering best practices, code quality, testing, and maintainability.
• Support and improve large-scale production systems with a focus on reliability, scalability, and operational excellence.
Required Qualifications
• 10-15 years of professional experience with Java development.
• 10+ years of experience with Spring Boot and microservices.
• 10+ years of experience with system design and distributed systems.
• 3+ years of experience with Apache Kafka and event-driven architecture.
• Strong working knowledge of PostgreSQL and relational databases.
• Strong hands-on software development and coding skills.
• Experience designing and developing scalable backend services and production-scale applications.
• Strong understanding of distributed system design, scalability, reliability, and performance.
• Ability to independently analyze complex technical problems and develop effective solutions.
• Experience participating in architecture and system design discussions.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with ambiguous requirements.
• Experience taking ownership of software solutions through design, implementation, testing, and production.
