Job description

• 10-12 years of experience, with at least the last 5-7 years as Lead DBA on all aspects of Postgres and Oracle Database Administration in a large/challenging database environment.
Postgres/Oracle DBA
Job Requirements:
• Performs all Postgres and Oracle Database Administration related activities for major ETS projects independently with minimal supervision.
• Participates in projects as assigned providing expertise related to Cloud Database Architecture (AWS or Azure). Analyzes database and information needs of projects and applications in order to recommend and implement cost-effective solutions.
• Conduct systems design, feasibility and cost studies and recommend cost-effective cloud native solutions.
• Develop standardized machine images and Cloud formation automation scripts for building non-prod and prod environments on AWS.
• Experience in managing, maintaining, patching, upgrading and ensuring operational continuity of both Postgres and Oracle Database and associated components using the following products:
• PgPool Cluster • Enterprise DB/Postgres tools. • Oracle Enterprise Manager, Data Guard, RMAN • Good UNIX, Linux knowledge and scripting is a must.
• Schedules and coordinates database maintenance activities.
• Strong capability and ability to resolve highly technical and complex database and infrastructure related issues on their own before they impact production and ETS business.
• Provides technical expertise to the development of solutions for such items as DBMS tools and utilities usage, database administration, backup and recovery, database performance tuning and monitoring.
• Trouble-shoots database and/or software problems as they apply to design, implementation, or installation activities.
• Participates in on-call, overnight off-hour production problem resolution activities.
• Develops and maintains DBMS related standards and procedures, knows where they are located, and makes full use of them. Follows ETS software development processes.
• Performs other assignments to comply with the SR&T corporate purpose and mission to add business value, increase revenue, decrease costs, improve productivity, and support the strategic initiative/directive.
• Complies with all ETS security and audit standards. Ensures security of company information by ensuring database is secure and monitors environment to identify improper access. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Experience supporting Postgres and Oracle Database is a MUST.
• Experience with administration of Databases on AWS Cloud using RDS and/or EC2 is a MUST.
• Demonstrate recent, professional exposure to support alternate RDBMS database flavors like MS SQLSERVER, Aurora, & NoSQL.
• Experience with automation tools (Ansible, Jenkins) & container technologies (Docker, CoreOS) is a plus.
• Experience supporting internet/web based database applications with heavy concurrent user volume.
• Experience operating in traditional and agile project models
• Willingness to work on-call DBA rotations in a 7x24 environment
• Strong Interpersonal skills to resolve problems in a professional manner, lead working groups, negotiate, and create consensus with both internal associates and external customers.
• Proficient at time and priority management. Education: The candidate should have a Bachelor degree or Masters in Computer Science or 7 to 10 years of related experience in IT or a related field.
