What is a post production internship?

A Post Production Internship is a temporary position where students or recent graduates gain hands-on experience in the post-production process of film, television, or digital media. Interns typically assist with editing, sound design, color correction, and organizing media assets. This role provides valuable insight into the workflow and tools used by professional editors and post-production teams, helping interns build industry skills and professional networks.

What types of projects and tasks will I typically work on as a post production intern?

As a Post Production Intern, you can expect to assist with a range of tasks such as organizing and managing digital assets, creating rough cuts, syncing audio and video, and preparing content for final review. You may also have the opportunity to work on color correction, basic editing, and adding simple effects under the supervision of experienced editors. Interns often support the workflow by assisting with file exports, transcoding, and quality checks, all while learning industry-standard software and best practices. This hands-on experience will give you valuable insight into the collaborative nature of post production and help you build foundational skills for a career in the field.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a post production intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Post Production Intern, you need a basic understanding of film editing principles, attention to detail, and familiarity with industry terminology, typically supported by coursework or a relevant degree in film, media, or communications. Proficiency with editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, and knowledge of file management systems are commonly required. Strong organization, communication, and teamwork skills make candidates stand out by enabling them to collaborate efficiently and adapt to fast-paced environments. These skills ensure that editing tasks are completed accurately and efficiently, contributing to the overall quality and timely delivery of media projects.

Job description

FloSports is the leading digital platform for underserved sports, combining live and on-demand streaming, original programming, data, and technology to help sports grow their audiences and build sustainable businesses, from youth to professional levels. By bringing thousands of events and communities onto one platform, Flo creates scale where none previously existed, connecting passionate fans with the sports they love while giving athletes, organizers, and rights holders the tools to reach and engage a global audience.
Flo streams more than 50,000 live events annually across sports, including motorsports, wrestling, hockey, track & field, cheer, jiu-jitsu, NCAA Division II and III athletics, and more. We're looking for people who are passionate about sports, embody accountability, collaboration, curiosity, positivity, grit, and excellence, and are motivated to help grow and elevate the communities we serve.
THE ROLE:
The Production Intern will work closely with members of the Production and Operations teams to support live event and studio production. They will gain hands-on experience throughout the production process, including pre-production planning, studio setup and reset, production support, equipment testing, graphics, podcast and studio show production, production logistics, and post-production workflows. Interns may work alongside on-air talent, assist coordinating producers, producers, and stream technicians, and learn how production budgeting, scheduling, staffing, and event planning support successful live broadcasts.
From week to week, interns will apply what they have learned by supporting FloSports live productions across a variety of events and studio projects. The internship is designed to provide exposure to multiple areas of sports production, with responsibilities tailored to the intern's skills, interests, and career goals. By the end of the internship, they will have a strong understanding of modern live production workflows, production planning and execution, broadcast technology, and the collaborative processes required to deliver high-quality live sports content.
  • This is an Austin-based internship available as a 12-14 week program.
  • Seeking a minimum availability of 20-25 hrs/week, with flexibility for live event and weekend coverage.
  • This is a paid internship, offering $20/hour.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist with weekly studio productions, including setup, operation, and studio reset.
  • Support live REMI productions before, during, and after broadcasts.
  • Prepare, test, organize, and inventory production equipment for upcoming events.
  • Assist with graphics creation, show building, and quality control for live productions.
  • Support podcast production, including studio setup, recording, and post-production workflows.
  • Assist with production budgeting, scheduling, staffing, documentation, and operational checklists.
  • Support onsite event setup, production execution, troubleshooting, and strike as assigned.
  • Collaborate with Production, Studio, Graphics, Logistics, and Operations teams based on department needs and live event schedules.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Interest in live sports production and a desire to learn all aspects of the production process.
  • Experience or coursework in live streaming, broadcast production, or digital media production.
  • Basic understanding of production fundamentals, including storytelling, camera operation, editing, lighting, and audio.
  • Familiarity with on-site, remote, and cloud-based production workflows.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with production staff, on-air talent, and cross-functional teams.
  • Willingness to take initiative, solve problems, and adapt to changing production needs.
  • Detail-oriented approach with a commitment to producing high-quality content and maintaining production standards.
  • Clear writing, copyediting, and formatting skills to support scripts, rundowns, and production documentation.

BONUS POINTS:
  • Familiarity with software-based production tools such as OBS, vMix, and Blackmagic ATEM.
  • Experience with broadcast graphics systems such as Chyron, Xpression, Singular, or Scorecard/SSP.
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud applications, including Premiere Pro, Photoshop, or After Effects.
  • Familiarity with prosumer production equipment, including Panasonic CX350 or CX10 cameras, Marshall POV cameras, Panasonic PTZ cameras, and related fiber optic connectivity.
  • Experience in G-Suite programs (Sheets, Docs, etc.) and Microsoft Office programs (PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Interest in production management workflows, including budgeting, scheduling, staffing, and cost comparison tools such as Domo.
