Job description

The Portfolio Manager is responsible for comprehensive portfolio oversight, trading execution, investment strategy development, and client portfolio support across VWG’s book of business. This role partners closely with Wealth Advisors and the investment team to deliver disciplined, tax-aware, and client-aligned investment solutions. The position also serves as a subject matter leader within the Portfolio Management team, contributing to asset allocation frameworks, structured product implementation, and the mentoring and development of junior team members. Hybrid role, 4 days in office.

Essential Functions: Portfolio Management

Serve as Lead Portfolio Manager on some client portfolios, conducting client portfolio reviews and partnering with Wealth Advisors to deliver actionable investment recommendations and support client meetings.

Prepare client-facing performance reporting and ad hoc portfolio analysis.

Conduct firm-level portfolio ("book") reviews, monitoring large positions, cash balances, and margin exposure.

Lead asset allocation guidelines and target allocations for the Portfolio Management team.

Develop and revise comprehensive portfolio recommendations for prospective and existing clients, including coordination and peer review for high-net-worth clients ($5M+).

Contribute to tax-aware portfolio management, including tax-loss harvesting and coordinated account-level decisions.

Trading & Implementation

Serve as primary trader for VWG-managed accounts; document, elevate, and remediate trade errors in coordination with Trading and Compliance teams.

Manage SMA onboarding, tax-loss harvesting, withdrawals, and account changes across both Envestnet and IWS platforms.

Lead and manage IWS cash management and money market sweep activities.

Oversee U.S. Treasury bill purchases and maturities, and review accounts for potential low-transaction ETF alternatives.

Structured Notes & Alternative Investment Oversight

Manage VWG book-level exposure to structured notes, including buffers, payoffs, maturities, and new or rolled issuances.

Partner with Wealth Advisors, PM team members, bank structured note desks, and the IWS trading desk on pricing, structures, and execution.

Collaborate on the design and placement of custom structured note solutions requiring precise communication and execution timing.

Support evaluation and oversight of private and alternative investments in alignment with firm strategy.

Research & Reporting

Utilize Black Diamond for portfolio analytics and reporting.

Track and report private investments using Accord.

Maintain diligence documentation and ongoing monitoring for assigned private investments.

Collect and synthesize portfolio and investment data to support analysis and decision-making.

Communication & Leadership

Deliver bi-weekly market updates and timely communications during periods of material market or economic change.

Proactively share investment insights from strategists and managers.

Mentor and develop junior Wealth Advisors and junior Portfolio Management team members.
