Associate Attorney – International Trademark Prosecution

Washington, D.C.

Direct Counsel is seeking an International Trademark Prosecution Associate to join an Am Law 100 firm in Washington, D.C.

This is a unique opportunity for a highly specialized trademark attorney with 5+ years of experience advising on U.S. and global trademark clearance, prosecution, enforcement, and disputes, with a particular emphasis on Latin America and broader international portfolio management.

The ideal candidate will have deep experience managing sophisticated global trademark portfolios, coordinating with foreign counsel, and advising clients on trademark protection and enforcement strategies across Latin America, Spain, the European Union, Asia, Africa, and Australia.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advising on global trademark clearance strategy
  • Managing USPTO trademark prosecution, including office action responses
  • Handling TTAB opposition and cancellation proceedings
  • Coordinating with foreign counsel worldwide on international filings, oppositions, cancellations, and enforcement matters
  • Drafting cease and desist letters and supporting infringement actions
  • Advising clients on international brand protection and enforcement
  • Preparing strategic guidance for trademark registration and enforcement across multiple jurisdictions
  • Monitoring third-party use of client IP rights globally
  • Managing social media and online platform IP enforcement, including takedown notices
  • Supporting litigation and dispute strategy related to trademark matters
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in U.S. and international trademark law
  • Significant experience with:
    • USPTO prosecution
    • TTAB procedures
    • Global clearance and portfolio strategy
    • Foreign oppositions and cancellations
    • Cease and desist and infringement matters
  • Strong experience supporting Latin America trademark strategy and enforcement
  • Experience in the food and beverage industry strongly preferred
  • Fluency in Spanish required
  • Admission in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
Compensation

The expected compensation range for this position is $225,000 – $420,000, depending on experience, seniority, and specialized international expertise.
