The Port Billing Specialist is responsible for accurate and timely invoicing of port drayage services, ensuring compliance with customer contracts and company billing procedures. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in port billing, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to manage high-volume transactions in a fast-paced trucking and logistics environment.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and process accurate invoicing for port drayage shipments in a timely manner
  • Review load details, rates, accessorial charges, and supporting documentation for billing accuracy
  • Ensure all invoices comply with customer contracts, tariffs, and company policies
  • Audit driver paperwork, terminal data, and dispatch entries for completeness and correctness
  • Identify and resolve billing discrepancies, disputes, and short payments
  • Coordinate with dispatch, operations, and customer service teams to obtain missing information
  • Maintain organized billing records and electronic documentation
  • Monitor billing cycles and ensure invoices are submitted within required timeframes
  • Apply accessorial charges such as demurrage, detention, chassis usage, overweight fees, etc.
  • Support month-end closing processes and reporting as needed
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent. College degree preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in port drayage invoicing (REQUIRED)
  • Strong knowledge of port operations, including LA/Long Beach terminals
  • Experience with drayage billing systems and TMS platforms: PortPro
  • Familiarity with accessorial charges (demurrage, detention, per diem, etc.)
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage high-volume billing workloads
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general computer systems
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Experience handling EDI/customer-specific billing requirements is a plus
  • Understanding of container freight station (CFS) and rail billing is a plus
