Job description

Position Overview

Join us in shaping the digital future of Porsche and Porsche Digital Inc. as an Vehicle Software Engineer in our Palo Alto, CA office. Our team is focused on advancing vehicle software technologies, transforming cutting-edge software into tailored digital experiences for Porsche customers. We combine design, engineering, architecture and integration to shape infotainment and software defined vehicle platforms and ensure seamless integration into Porsche vehicles.

We are seeking a Vehicle Software Engineer for our multidisciplinary Vehicle Software team in Silicon Valley. In this role, you will be responsible for advancing and integrating software into Porsche vehicles, ensuring it meets our brand's standards and customer expectations. Our mission is to combine in-house software development and partnerships to enhance the in-car digital experience by tailoring software to Porsche-specific use cases. As part of a cross-functional team, you will directly contribute to the success of our vehicle programs by developing robust, scalable systems that connect vehicles with apps, backend services, and cloud infrastructure.

The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise in embedded and automotive software with a proven ability to ensure high integration quality, maintain software reliability, and deliver programs on time and within scope.
The position is based in Palo Alto, CA.We are working in a hybrid work environment with on-site and remote workdays.

Roles & Responsibilities: 

  • Support the build of Automotive systems & applications based on (but not limited to) Android Automotive OS,
  • Contribute to vehicle infotainment systems, software defined vehicle platforms, electrical network architecture, Android Automotive OS and ecosystems (Android, Linux/QNX, iOS, CarPlay, Google Automotive Services)
  • Contribute to architectural technical solutions that meet the functional requirements as well as Security, Safety, and Performance targets 
  • Collaborate with other software & vehicle engineers/teams (local and Germany)
    as well as the rest of the cross-functional product team (product, systems, hardware, validation, integration, cloud/backend) to ensure seamless vehicle software integration
  • Review and iterate on software created by the engineering team, ensuring continuous high quality deliveries
  • Support the creation of the documentation of design, development processes and technical roadmap.

Required Qualifications 

Education: 

Bachelor's and/or Master's degree, preferably in Computer Science, or equivalent experience 

Experience: 

  • 2+ years of Software Development - C/C++, Python, Java/Kotlin
    incl. software design, code review and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD). 
  • 1 year of working experience in the field of automotive software

Skills & Knowledge

  • Experience in the field of Automotive Systems HW (ECUs) & SW (Linux, QNX, Android Automotive, etc.) 
  • Embedded and Real-Time System knowledge
  • Experience with (automotive) software production development and software/application lifecycles
  • Android development (Java/Kotlin) experience
  • Familiarity with tools like Jira, Confluence, Git, Bitrise, etc.
  • Experience with agile, cross-functional teams and scrum 
  • You are a proactive and effective communicator, adept at working with various teams and leading initiatives with little direct supervision. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Android Auto & Apple CarPlay experience
  • Google Automotive Services knowledge
  • Experience in the field of backend, cloud services, mobile applications for automotive a plus 
  • Experience with working in a global team-set up and multi team collaboration environment 
  • Experience in Vehicle Architecture, Networks/Protocols (e.g. CAN, Ethernet) and interfaces 
  • Experience in Testing, in particular Unit, Testing Suites, Tools & Frameworks

Physical requirements

  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to talk, hear, walk, sit, stand, climb stairs on occasion with prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to effectively work and complete tasks in an open office/noisy environment.

The salary range for this role is $169,040 - $253,560. However, it is important to note that at Porsche, compensation range is dependent on geographic location. Individual salaries within each range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skillset. Porsche reviews compensation regularly and may adjust base salaries to reflect market competitiveness.
