Job description

The Pool Attendant is responsible for providing exemplary service at the Ojai Valley Inn Pools. Duties include; host/welcoming guests and seating, clearing and resetting lounge chairs, cabanas, and tables, refreshing drinks, and responsible for setup and breakdown of all pool areas. The Pool Attendant is ideally positioned to enhance the guest experience and plays an essential role in the resortโ€™s goal of exceeding high guest expectations. Remaining constantly aware of the pool environments, engaging with guests, anticipating their needs and taking initiative to improve their experience.ย 

STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS:ย 

Requirements are representative of minimum levels of knowledge, skills and/or abilities.ย  To perform this job successfully, the incumbent will possess the abilities or aptitudes to perform each duty proficiently. Some requirements may exclude individuals who pose a direct threat or significant risk to the health and safety of themselves, other employees or guests.

SKILLS AND Qualifications:

  1. Preferably one year customer service or restaurant environment but not necessary.

  2. Possess a positive, outgoing and friendly Personality.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of The Ojai Valley Innโ€™sย  style, practices, culture, terminology, organizational structure, and general philosophy.ย  That philosophy should be portrayed in the professional appearance, behavior, integrity, openness and accessibility to employees and guests.

  2. Maintain a friendly yet unobtrusive manner with all guests throughout their dining experience.

  3. Promote teamwork and foster a harmonious working climate.

  4. Recognize and address potential intoxicated, disruptive or undesirable guests.

  5. Properly handle and report employee guest accidents.ย 

  6. Respond properly to any hotel emergency or safety situation.

  7. Perform other tasks or projects as assigned by the Manager, resort management, and staff.

  8. Offer guests of the restaurant an enjoyable, expertly served beverage/dining experience conforming to Service and Training Manual:

  9. All associates must endeavor to actively greet guests, smile, make eye contactย  and speak clearly in a friendly manner as they enter the pool area

  10. Set up Mise en Place e.i follow checklist, align lounge chairs, fill water station, etc.

  11. The Opener must ensure that all areas are prepped for the day.ย 

  12. The assigned station is the PAโ€™s (Pool Attendant) โ€œstageโ€ for the shift and they must take pride and ownership of it.ย  Each lounge chair in a PAโ€™s station must be thoroughly proofed by the assigned PA and coordinate with the server the plan for the day.

  13. The pool and Back of House areas must remain neat, clean and organized environment at all times during the shift.ย ย 

  14. Each PA must always practice a โ€œclean as you goโ€ philosophy throughout their shift.

  15. Pool Attendants are to be at the pool taking care of their guests and not standing in the wait station or under an umbrella outside talking to each other.

  16. Greet guests within 30 seconds of arrival.ย 

  17. If the guest has a Cabana reservation, confirm the number of people in the party. Notify MOD and server. The PA will enquired about number of guest in the party, last name and room number to log information in guestsโ€™ book. Manager to ALWAYS greet Cabana.

  18. PA will gather the towels for the party and ask the guest to follow them to their lounge chair(s)/Cabana

  19. In the case of a non-Cabana guest, the PA will escort the guest(s) to the least populated section of the pool and ask the guest whether they prefer sun or shade

  20. The PA will lay out the lounge chair cover each applicable chair and invite the guest to sit

  21. PA will bring iced water to each guest and refresh during their stay. Beverages must always be transported on a tray

  22. PA will notify server of guests arrival and provide guest name and room number

  23. Soiled plates cleared within 2 minutes of all guestโ€™s finishing

  24. Guests will be able to easily get staff attention within 60 secondsย 

  25. Service will always be prompt and attentive, no plastic glass/cup empty more than 2 minutes before offer of refill; โ€œtableโ€ kept neat and tidy. Service will not be interruptive, i.e. staff will not interrupt with questions or make excessively long descriptions or conversation

  26. All guest contact staff will be able to answer basic questions about the property, will take ownership of simple requests, and not simply refer guests elsewhere

  27. All staff, even in passing will engage guests with a smile, eye contact and acknowledgment

  28. Staff will create a sense of recognition by using the guestโ€™s name, when known, in a natural and discreet manner. PA will speak to guests in an attentive, natural and courteous manner, avoiding pretension

  29. Staff will always appear clean, crisp, polished, and well fitted in the correct uniform with their name badge on at all times while they are on duty

  30. Guests who are alone in our pools will be actively offered reading material

  31. The PA will wish the guests a fond farewell as they depart

  32. Enhanced degrees of โ€œpersonalized serviceโ€™ will be practiced such as but not limited to โ€“ sunglasses cleaning โ€“ passing of amenities โ€“ replenishing/straightening of towels etc.

  33. Each PA is responsible for the appearance of their station before they leave.

  34. Each PA must ensure that they complete their closing Side Work duties daily and MUST check out with MOD.
