Job description

Are you looking for a position with a stable company that has much to offer? Wood is currently recruiting Lead Technician to join our team based out of Upton, Wyoming, which is located near Gillette, Wyoming. The Shift Lead is a hands-on, working lead responsible for day-to-day coordination of a shift crew and for operating controls at the Upton Demonstration Plant. Under the direct guidance of RER management and project consultants, this role ensures that all automated and manual systems are operated strictly in accordance with established protocols. You will be responsible for running plant controls and directing the Technicians while actively performing the same manual labor, piping construction, and sampling tasks as the Technicians. If your leadership style is pointing (rather than leading), this position is not for you.   • Technical Expertise: Mastery of hand and power tools. Significant experience with general piping in a plant setting, including CPVC construction and poly pipe fusion.
  • P&ID experience: Proficiency in reading P&ID's 
  • Detail Orientation: Proven ability to manage complex data and maintain high standards of accuracy in reporting and process monitoring.
  • Leadership & Common Sense: Proven ability to lead a team without micro-management. Must possess exceptional logical thinking skills and the "common sense" required to manage a complex industrial startup environment. Minimum of 2 years leading crews.
  • Operational Background: Experience running industrial plant controls or similar automated systems in a 24/7 environment.
  • Physical Stamina: Must be capable of lifting 60+ lbs. regularly, sitting for periods of time. and working at elevated heights using ladders or lifts. 
  • Supervision & Crew Leadership: Act as the primary Technician for the shift, ensuring all tasks are completed safely and efficiently. Direct the Technicians in their daily duties and sign off on the work when it is complete to the expected standard.
  • Training & Mentorship: Lead the continuous on-the-job training for the Plant Operations Staff. Ensure the crew is proficient in SOPs, safety protocols, P&ID reading, and technical tasks such as Poly pipe fusion and CPVC solvent cementing. 
  • Plant Control & Monitoring: Responsible for running plant controls, monitoring process variables, and making real-time adjustments to maintain optimal production flow.
  • Detail-Oriented Documentation: Maintain meticulous logs of plant performance, shift changes, and maintenance activities. Close attention to detail is required to spot subtle process deviations before they become operational issues.
  • Dual-Role Labor: Lead by example by performing all manual labor tasks alongside the staff, including pulling samples, loading raw materials, and manually moving chemical sacks weighing 60+ lbs.
  • Piping Construction & Maintenance: Oversight and hands-on execution of plant piping projects, specifically utilizing CPVC construction, poly pipe fusion, and general industrial piping techniques.
  • Safety Leadership (ALARA): Enforce strict adherence to safety standards, particularly regarding hazardous acids and naturally occurring radioactive materials (NORM), ensuring the crew follows ALARA principles at all times.
