Job description

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION:

Under general supervision, Poll Workers report to their Absentee Polling Place at the time specified by the Sweetwater County Clerk's Office. Poll workers must work until the last person in line at closing time votes, and all closing procedures are followed after the site closes each evening. This position runs from July 20 to August 17th.

MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY AND PERFORMANCE:

Essential Duties:

  • Attend training.
  • Inspect the Absentee Polling Place before voting begins for possible problems and contact the Elections Office if any problems exist.
  • Set up the Absentee Polling Place.
  • Check in voters and make sure they receive the correct ballot.
  • Resolve voter problems.
  • Handles provisional ballots.
  • Lock the doors at closing time and announces that the polls are closed.
  • Directs the securing of all materials so no further voting will occur after closing.
  • Transport Election Materials to the Election Office at the end of absentee polling.
  • Other Duties: Performs other duties as assigned.

SPECIFIC CHARACTERISTICS:

Performs routine work according to established standards; prepares voter lists and records relating to work performed; works regularly with some information which is generally limited; discretion and integrity are recognized requirements for the job; responsible for equipment that is used in performing duties; position requires substantial contact with the public; hazards and discomforts are minor and controllable.
