We are seeking aData Engineering Internto support our data pipelines and database operations. This role is ideal for someone with foundational knowledge in Python and databases who is interested in working with congressional and political data.
This internship is a part-time opportunity with compensation of $15.95 per hour. The position will be primarily in-person in North Bethesda, Maryland, with options for hybrid arrangements. The dates for the internship will be Aug 31 - Nov 20 depending upon students' availability/ course schedule.

What you'll do
  • Assist in building and maintaining data pipelines

  • Write and optimize SQL queries

  • Support data transformation and validation tasks

  • Work with structured datasets related to Congress, legislation, hearings, and lobbying data

  • Support the implementation and maintenance of AI workflows for data engineering

  • Collaborate with the team to improve data quality and documentation

What we're looking for
  • Enrolled undergraduate student majoring in computer science, computer engineering, data science, or a related technical field

  • Basic knowledge ofPython

  • Basic understanding ofSQL and relational databases

  • Familiarity with data cleaning and transformation concepts

  • Interest in U.S. congressional processes and legislative data

  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn

Nice to Have
  • Experience with PostgreSQL and/or Opensearch

  • Coursework or exposure to Artificial Intelligence (AI), Large Language Models (LLMs), natural language processing, andrelated concepts

  • Familiarity with Amazon Web Services (AWS)

  • Understanding ETL concepts.

  • Exposureto APIs or web data extraction

  • Academic or practical knowledge of U.S. Congress, legislation, or public policy
