How much do police social worker jobs pay per year?
What does a police social worker do?
Police social workers provide counseling and crisis response support for community members who are referred by police officers. They may work within a police department or work at a social service agency and partner with law enforcement officials. As a police social worker, you may provide on-site support for victims of domestic violence or substance abuse, accompanying first-responders to scenes that need someone to negotiate with an angry or distraught individual. You may also counsel residents who have lost loved ones, suffered from property damage, or design programs for at-risk youth. Police social workers may also train police officers in stress management, mental illness, substance abuse, domestic violence, and child abuse, and provide consultation and counseling services to police officers and their families.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a police social worker?

| Work Environment | Police departments, community outreach, crisis intervention | Probation offices, courts, community supervision |
| Employer & Industry | Law enforcement agencies, social service organizations | Courts, criminal justice agencies, probation departments |

Police Social Workers focus on crisis intervention, community outreach, and supporting individuals involved with law enforcement. Probation Officers supervise offenders on probation, ensuring compliance with court orders. While their roles differ in focus, both serve to support rehabilitation and community safety within the criminal justice framework.
