Job description

About Blank Street:
At Blank Street, we're on a mission to become the defining food and beverage brand of our generation, built on a matcha forward menu done obsessively right, a design aesthetic people stop to photograph, and a high-volume format that never cuts corners on quality or hospitality. What began as a handful of carts in NYC is now 100+ locations with a cult following across New York, DC, Boston, and London, and we're just getting started. We're building the team that will define Blank Street in LA. If you want to be part of something people are genuinely obsessed with, keep reading.
Add a Spark to the Ordinary...
Shift Leads at Blank Street don't just run shifts, they set the standard. You're the heartbeat of the store: keeping the floor moving, holding the bar high, and making sure the team shows up as the best version of themselves every single shift. The details are the whole point - the drink that's made exactly right, the customer who leaves happier than they came in, the shift that runs like clockwork.
We're opening in LA for the first time, and the Shift Lead role carries real weight. We expect our Shift Leads to care deeply equally for our customers and their team. We celebrate wins together, whether it's beautiful latte art or a meaningful customer interaction. Shift Leads set the tone, building pride, energy, and a strong sense of camaraderie across the team. You're not inheriting a culture, you're building it. How this team operates, how this store feels, and how Blank Street lands in a brand new city starts with you.
Who We're Looking For
  • A strong people leader - you coach in the moment, give clear direction, bring out the best in people, and love being a part of their growth
  • Friendly and passionate about hospitality - you're always leading by example to make a customer's day
  • Detail obsessed -you hold a high bar for product quality, cleanliness, and organization, and ensure standards are met consistently across your team
  • Operationally minded - you act with intent, purpose, and ownership to keep shifts running smoothly, efficiently, and on rhythm
  • Adaptable and solutions-oriented - you stay calm under pressure and flex as things change in a fast-paced environment
  • Passionate about coffee and/or matcha - you lead by example and share that enthusiasm with your team
  • Inclusive team builder - you foster a positive, respectful environment and know how to bring different personalities together

What You'll Own
  • Lead the shift with clarity and confidence directing, coaching, and supporting the team while owning the floor
  • Train new team members alongside your General Manager and the Training Team
  • Continue to train others as we evolve to ensure we are achieving our standards across product quality, safety, and hospitality
  • Delight our customers with consistent, welcoming and engaging hospitality, taking the opportunity to turn every customer into a regular
  • Step in to handle customer or team issues in a calm, positive, and solutions-oriented way
  • Maintain a clean and organized environment upholding both Local Department of Health and Blank Street standards at all times
  • Be an integral part of our world class team using the best equipment, coffee, and matcha in the industry
  • Partner with our Operations and Marketing teams for events and promotions to expand our brand to new customers
  • Set your team up for success by mastering different company procedures such as cash handling, inventory, waste tracking, and opening and closing processes.

Additional Information:
  • Operating Hours: Monday-Thursday, 7:00 AM-7:00 PM; Friday-Sunday, 7:00 AM-8:00 PM, with flexibility required as hours may adjust based on business needs.
  • Training: Shift Leads will participate in a required training program in NYC from May 15-May 21. We're excited to bring the team together for this experience, and all travel, lodging, and meal expenses will be covered by Blank Street.

Requirements
  • 2+ years' experience in a customer service leadership position, preferably in hospitality or coffee
  • 18+ years of age
  • Able to lift 25+ lbs, and to stand for long periods of time
  • Availability that meets the needs of our cafes
    • Full Time: 30-40 hours per week, 4-5 days per week and must be able to work 2 peak days (peak days: Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
    • Weekend and holiday availability preferred
