Job description

Essential Duties:
  • Process check-in clipboard from Terminal Checker/Receiving Clerk.
  • Verify drivers are wearing safety vests.
  • Instruct drivers in cargo delivery.
  • Assist drivers with unloading cargo safely.
  • Verify VIN on vehicle with dock receipt.
  • Inspect vehicles for damages, steering, brake function, functioning driver's side door, foreign objects, and/or any noticeable damages.
  • Record inspection results on dock receipt.
  • Verify delivered cargo matches description and quantity on dock receipt.
  • Apply handwritten label on driver's side front windshield.
  • Return dock receipts to office.
  • Create a copy of original dock receipt, return original to driver.
  • Deliver copy to dock receipt to Title Processing/Data Entry Clerk for entry into Web application.
  • Complete any re-measurements requested.
  • Ensure optimal usage of available space to fit maximum cargo.
  • Visually check cargo to verify units are placed in correct locations.
  • Apply scan labels to received cargo, drivers' side rear window.
  • Complete any special requests submitted from carriers.
  • Coordinate cargo separation sorted by POD, Vessel, and then Cargo type.
  • Assist Transporters with unloading of cargo when forklift is necessary.
  • Support Terminal Checker/Receiving Clerk and Vehicle Processors during peak times.
  • Scan cargo using load list and mark with dot for pre-stow clerk tick number.
  • Stage cargo according to priority given by carrier.
  • Notify carrier if cargo requires mechanic or other special instructions.
  • Coordinate cargo loading locations with stevedores.
  • Post vessel operations as needed such as perform physical inventory, inspect cut units to verify reasoning, inspect import cargo condition upon receipt
  • Perform any end of day tasks to assist other terminal personnel.
  • Ensure all documents and copies are presented in proper order.
  • Turn in title packages to US Customs.
  • Perform other duties and assigned.
  • SHIFT: Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm with the possibility of overtime and/or weekend work as directed by business need.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid US Driver's License
  • Obtain and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC Badge) issued by the Department of Homeland Security
  • Experience operating automatic and straight (manual) shift vehicles

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Forklift Certification
  • Working knowledge of business math
  • Basic computer knowledge and experience with parts inventory control
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in an auto port processing environment
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions

Physical Working Conditions:
  • Frequent walking, standing, bending, occasional sitting.
  • The ability to climb up and down stairs and equipment multiple times within a shift.
  • Requires physical ability to work on a ship and in a yard.
  • The ability to use a computer/keyboard.
  • The ability to work in changing hot and cold climates based on weather conditions.
  • The ability to work in an environment with moving objects and machinery.
  • The environment may be hazardous to persons unable to see or hear fast-moving heavy equipment
  • Work in tight spaces and congested quarters.
  • Lift, push, or pull up to 50lbs.
