Job description

Location: Seattle, WA (Boeing Plant 2)
Reports to: Director of Technical Services
Employment Status: 1099 - Independent Contractor
Part Time (12-15 weeks annually)
POSITION SUMMARY
City FM's FCTA is seeking a Subject Matter Expert (SME) Instructor with deep experience in industrial process plumbing and steam systems to deliver classroom and hands-on training for Boeing maintenance technicians.
This contractor role will instruct classes of 12-18 technicians on the maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and operation of industrial piping systems, valves, steam and water distribution systems, boilers, water heaters, and related equipment. Training is delivered alongside a partner SME and requires approximately 12-15 weeks of instruction annually.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Deliver classroom and hands-on technical training, coaching, and skills development in industrial process plumbing and steam systems.
  • Instruct technicians on piping materials and systems including steel, stainless steel, copper, plastic, threaded, welded, and grooved piping.
  • Teach operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of valves, including Cla-Val valves, PRVs, control valves, and isolation valves.
  • Provide training on steam, condensate, hot water, and industrial water distribution systems.
  • Evaluate trainee performance through practical exercises and skills assessments.
    Support development and continuous improvement of training materials.
  • Promote safety and industry best practices throughout all training activities.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • 10+ years of experience in industrial plumbing, steam systems, industrial piping, or related mechanical trades.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial piping systems, valves, steam distribution, boilers, and water systems.
  • Experience with a variety of piping materials and installation methods.
  • Ability to effectively train and mentor adult learners.
  • Strong presentation, communication, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally as needed.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Journeyman or Master Plumber license.
  • Previous technical training or instructional experience.
  • Experience in manufacturing, aerospace, utility, healthcare, or large industrial facilities.
  • Knowledge of boiler systems, condensate recovery, and water treatment.

WORK SCHEDULE & TRAVEL
  • Approximately 1-2 weeks per month
  • Maximum 12-15 weeks annually
  • Typical schedule: Monday-Thursday, 6:30 AM-3:00 PM (occasional second-shift instruction (2:00 PM-10:30 PM)
  • Based in Seattle, WA, with occasional travel to Philadelphia, PA or St. Louis, MO.
