Job description

Position Overview

The General Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing all operations within a residential and multifamily mechanical construction division, with a focus on plumbing and HVAC systems. This role provides strategic and operational leadership across estimating, design, procurement, installation, and field execution to ensure projects are delivered efficiently, profitably, and to the highest quality standards.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on, relationship-driven leader with a strong background in mechanical construction operations, capable of driving growth, developing teams, and building long-term partnerships within the builder community.


Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee all aspects of division operations including estimating, bidding, design coordination, procurement, installation, and field execution.
  • Lead and facilitate sales, production, and operations meetings, setting performance goals and tracking progress.
  • Manage division P&L, budgets, forecasting, and overall financial performance.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with homebuilders, developers, vendors, and clients.
  • Drive business development efforts and support division growth and market expansion.
  • Mentor and develop team members across project management, estimating, and field operations.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership on strategic planning and operational improvements.
  • Monitor field operations to ensure compliance with safety standards, quality expectations, and project schedules.
  • Represent the organization in client meetings, industry events, and partnership discussions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve estimating accuracy, productivity, and customer satisfaction.
  • Implement and refine processes to support scalability, efficiency, and long-term success.

Qualifications
  • 8โ€“15+ years of experience in mechanical construction, with a focus on plumbing and/or HVAC systems.
  • Proven experience managing a division, department, or operations team within a mechanical contractor.
  • Strong understanding of residential and multifamily construction workflows.
  • Experience overseeing estimating, project management, and field operations.
  • Established relationships within the homebuilder or multifamily developer market preferred.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing budgets, forecasting, and profitability.
  • Proficiency with construction management or accounting systems (e.g., Viewpoint or similar platforms).
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work onsite and lead teams in a fast-paced, production-driven environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in high-volume residential or multifamily production environments.
  • Background in design-build or production homebuilding operations.
  • Proven track record of scaling operations and improving efficiency and profitability.
