Plug Tech information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a plug tech?

To thrive as a Plug Tech, you need a solid understanding of electrical systems, mechanical aptitude, and experience with diagnostics, often supported by vocational training or an associate degree in a technical field. Familiarity with industry-standard testing equipment, wiring schematics, and safety protocols is crucial, and certifications like OSHA or manufacturer-specific credentials are often valued. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help you excel in troubleshooting and collaborating with teams. These skills ensure safe, efficient installation and maintenance of plug and electrical systems, minimizing downtime and ensuring compliance with safety standards.

What is a plug tech?

Plug Techs are professionals who specialize in working with electrical plugs, connectors, and related components. Their responsibilities often include installing, repairing, and maintaining plug systems in various settings, such as homes, businesses, or industrial facilities. Plug Techs ensure the safe and efficient operation of electrical connections, troubleshoot any plug-related issues, and may also advise on the best products or solutions for specific electrical needs. They typically have knowledge of safety standards and electrical codes relevant to their work.

What is the difference between Plug Tech vs Electrician?

AspectPlug TechElectrician
CredentialsTypically requires technical training or certification in electrical systems and safetyRequires state licensing, apprenticeships, and formal electrical training
Work EnvironmentWorks in residential, commercial, or industrial settings installing and maintaining outlets and plugsPerforms wiring, repairs, and installations across various electrical systems in diverse environments

Both roles require electrical knowledge, but electricians typically hold licensing and have more extensive training. Understanding these differences helps in choosing the right professional for your electrical needs.

What are some common challenges faced by plug tech professionals when integrating new devices into existing tech ecosystems?

Plug Tech professionals often encounter challenges such as compatibility issues between new devices and legacy systems, ensuring seamless connectivity, and addressing security vulnerabilities. These challenges require strong troubleshooting skills and up-to-date knowledge of various hardware and software platforms. Collaboration with IT teams and clear communication with end users are essential to ensure smooth integration and minimize downtime. Staying current with industry standards and updates can help Plug Tech professionals quickly resolve issues and deliver effective solutions.

Job description

Job Title: Sr. Product Manager, Commercial

Team: Product

Location: Onsite-Santa Monica, CA

Employment Type: Full-time, Salaried, Exempt

Reports To: SVP of Product & Technology

About Plug

Plug is an automotive fintech startup building the marketplace for electric vehicles. Consumers, dealers, and commercial partners trade in, sell, and auction used EVs through a platform built exclusively for electric, with nothing adapted from legacy automotive.

Consumers can get an instant cash offer in minutes, backed by data-driven pricing, battery state-of-health analysis, with pickup, payment, and title transfer handled end-to-end. Franchise and independent dealers across the United States bid in real time on inventory sourced directly from these consumers, dealers, and commercial partners. The result is a single platform that gives sellers a fast, fair exit and gives dealers a dedicated channel for sourcing used EV inventory.

Founded in 2023 and led by former Tesla executives, Plug has facilitated $100M in EV sales since launch and is backed by a $20M Series A from Lightspeed Venture Partners. We're building the most AI-native startup team in Los Angeles, full of operators, engineers, and ML researchers laying the transaction rails for the used EV market's exponential growth.

Why Plug
  • You'll own a piece of the biggest infrastructure opportunity in automotive.
  • You'll work on a platform built exclusively for EVs, with nothing adapted from legacy automotive.
  • You'll be part of an AI-native company. We're rethinking how work gets done at a fundamental level.
  • You'll work directly with operators who have scaled multi-billion dollar businesses in automotive, EV, and marketplaces.
  • You'll have real ownership, high autonomy, and a direct line to company outcomes.
The Opportunity

We are looking for a Sr. Product Manager, Commercial to own the platform for our OEM and commercial partners run on. Partners like Rivian, Lucid, and VinFast move inventory through Plug today on our V1 platform. Your job is to build the next-gen scalable platform to drive value for those partners and for Plug. You will report to the SVP of Product and Technology.

This is a senior individual contributor role. You will own the partner platform end-to-end, paired closely with engineering, working directly with some of the most important names in EV. You will operate with high autonomy and a direct line to company outcomes.

You will be stepping into a small, talented team with real momentum and a platform built exclusively for EVs. The partner platform is among the most strategically urgent surfaces we are building.

What You’ll Do
  • Own the full OEM and commercial partner platform, including the interfaces partners use to process and track inventory through Plug.
  • Design and own the APIs that connect Plug into partner systems and other third‑party tools.
  • Lead the migration of partners off manual processes onto software that scales.
  • Own the end-to-end experience for our highest-value partner relationships, working hand in hand with the partners themselves.
  • Partner across sales, operations, and engineering so the platform reflects real partner needs and business goals.
  • Build usable, reliable B2B SaaS that our enterprise partners depend on day in and day out.
What You’ll Bring
  • 5+ years in product management, with a strong track record in B2B SaaS working directly with enterprise customers, where the customer relationship drove the value you created.
  • Strong stakeholder management across external partners and internal teams, including sales, operations, and engineering.
  • Platform and API product fluency, including designing and exposing internal APIs to external partners.
  • Comfort modernizing and rebuilding systems, not just maintaining them.
  • Hands‑on, shipped experience building with AI tools. As part of the process, we will ask you to show us something you have built.
  • Builder mentality: you act, you do not just plan, and you thrive in an environment where roles are fluid and the lines between product, engineering, and design are blurring.
  • Strong communication skills, able to represent product credibly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Authorized to work in the US for any employer.
  • Prior experience in automotive, EV, marketplace, or fintech systems is a plus.
Compensation and Benefits

Annual salary: $180,000 to $200,000

Salary ranges reflect independent, third‑party benchmarking against national compensation data. Where an individual's actual offer falls within that range depends on a combination of factors, including relevant experience, specialized skills, training and qualifications, current business needs, and prevailing market conditions. Ranges are reviewed periodically and may be adjusted to reflect changing market conditions.

Benefits:

  • Health, vision, and dental insurance
  • Daily lunch stipend
  • Eligibility for equity/stock options, based on role and performance
  • Opportunities for growth and development

This full‑time position is based in Sawtelle (between Santa Monica and West Los Angeles) and is an in‑person role. We welcome candidates from all locations to apply, provided they are willing to relocate for the role. Relocation assistance will not be provided for successful candidates. Sponsorship not available at this time.

Acknowledgments

Plug is an equal opportunity employer. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status. We believe diverse teams build better products - full stop.
