Job description

Playground Global is a venture capital firm backing the most technically ambitious founders of working at the edge of engineering and science. With $1.2 billion under management, Playground invests in early-stage companies defining the future of next-generation compute, automation, energy, and engineered biology.
We're hiring a Senior Manager, Marketing and Communications to support our portfolio companies at key moments and to elevate Playground's voice and visibility across the deep tech ecosystem. You'll split your time between helping founders launch and tell their stories, and shaping firm-level content and presence across the platforms and voices that matter most.
This is an execution-focused role for someone with 5-8 years of experience who thrives in fast-moving environments. You're both strategic and hands-on-able to translate complex ideas into compelling narratives, manage multiple workstreams, and move projects forward with clarity and momentum. You'll collaborate closely with founders, GPs, internal partners, and external agencies, bringing strong judgment, organization, and follow-through to everything you touch.
What You'll Do
Portfolio Company Support
  • Partner with founders and Playground leadership to support company launches, funding announcements, and other high-impact milestones
  • Develop core launch materials, including messaging frameworks, timelines, blog posts, press releases, FAQs, and internal talking points
  • Create and manage collateral such as founder bios, one-pagers, social content, and web copy
  • Coordinate with designers, video editors, PR agencies, and other external partners to ensure projects stay on track and on brand
  • Build and maintain a trusted bench of creative vendors and freelancers
  • Track performance and feedback across launches and campaigns-using engagement, reach, and qualitative signals to refine future efforts
Firm-Level Marketing & Visibility
  • Own and manage content for Playground's owned channels, including LinkedIn, blog, podcast, short-form video, and key web pages
  • Identify and engage with influential voices across the deep tech ecosystem, from traditional media to emerging platforms (e.g., Substack, podcasts, YouTube)
  • Support content and storytelling around firm-led programming and events, including post-event narratives and follow-on distribution
  • Elevate GP visibility through thoughtful content, event participation, and opportunistic media moments
  • Ensure Playground's external presence is consistent, credible, and differentiated across channels
  • Partner with internal teams (operations, talent, events, leadership) to align messaging and execution across the firm

What Success Looks Like (6-12 Months In)
  • Portfolio companies feel well-supported during launches and key milestones
  • Playground has a clear, consistent, and respected voice across owned and earned channels
  • Founders and GPs proactively pull you in as a trusted thought partner
  • Major moments-launches, events, announcements-run smoothly and land with impact

Skills & Traits
  • 5-8+ years of experience in marketing, communications, or media (VC, agency, content-forward startup, or media org experience a plus)
  • Exceptional writing and editorial instincts, with the ability to shape narratives across formats and audiences
  • Strong project management skills; able to run multiple timelines and collaborators with clarity and follow-through
  • Comfortable working directly with founders and senior leaders, exercising sound judgment and professionalism
  • Fluent across modern storytelling platforms and media landscapes, from traditional press to emerging formats
  • Curious, proactive, and technically literate-motivated by ownership and driven to make a measurable impact
