Plastics Engineer

1 Year Contract

A growing medical device manufacturer is seeking a Plastics Engineer to lead product development, tooling, and process improvement initiatives within a highly regulated manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead plastic product and process development projects from concept through production.
  • Support mold design, tooling development, validation, and process optimization.
  • Utilize DOE, SPC, Mold Flow Analysis, FMEA, and Scientific Molding principles to improve quality and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain teams to resolve technical challenges.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on product performance, manufacturability, and cost reduction.
  • Support design reviews, risk assessments, validation activities, and design transfer processes.
  • Identify and evaluate new materials, technologies, and manufacturing methods.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Plastics, or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience in plastics tooling, injection molding, and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with DOE, SPC, Mold Flow Analysis, FMEA, and Scientific Molding.
  • Proficiency with CAD software (SolidWorks preferred), GD&T, and statistical analysis tools such as Minitab.
  • Understanding of validation requirements within a regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Strong project management, problem-solving, and technical leadership skills.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing methodologies preferred.
  • Knowledge of polymer materials and molding processes; polyolefin experience is a plus.
