Plant Designer - Mining & Minerals

About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Plant Designer to join a growing engineering team supporting mining, minerals processing, materials handling, and refining projects. This position offers the opportunity to work on complex industrial facilities from early-stage design through detailed engineering and construction support.
The ideal candidate will have strong 3D modeling and plant layout experience, a solid understanding of mechanical systems, and the ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and prepare plant layouts, equipment arrangements, 2D drawings, and 3D design models for mining and minerals processing facilities.
  • Support project planning activities by collaborating with engineers, project managers, and other design professionals.
  • Contribute to Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), facility layouts, and equipment general arrangements during early project phases.
  • Create and maintain detailed CAD models and construction drawings.
  • Navigate and review 3D models to identify interferences, improve constructability, and ensure design quality.
  • Design complex mechanical systems and components with minimal supervision.
  • Assist with material requisitions, bid evaluations, and procurement support activities.
  • Participate in model reviews, constructability reviews, and interdisciplinary coordination meetings.
  • Develop and maintain drafting standards, procedures, and best practices.
  • Conduct occasional site visits to support construction activities, resolve field issues, and interpret design documents.
  • Prepare progress reports and design documentation as required.

Required Qualifications
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Computer-Aided Design (CAD), Drafting Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in plant design, industrial facilities, mining, minerals processing, or related industries.
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings, drafting principles, design standards, and construction documentation.
  • Experience coordinating with multiple engineering disciplines in a 3D modeling environment.
  • Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD (2020 or newer).
  • Experience with CADWorx and/or Autodesk Plant 3D.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and manage detailed 3D plant models in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Experience modeling mechanical equipment and coordinating interfaces with piping, structural, civil, and electrical disciplines.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and utilize engineering documents and drawings developed by other project teams.
  • Knowledge of engineering materials and construction practices relevant to industrial facilities.
  • Familiarity with NI 43-101 and/or SK1300 reporting requirements is a plus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
