Job description

A Snapshot of Your Day
As Plant Floor Layout Designer, you will develop, maintain, and optimize manufacturing facility layouts that support safe, efficient, and cost-effective operations. Using CAD and 3D modeling tools, you will design the physical arrangement of machinery, equipment, workstations, material storage areas, personnel spaces, and supporting infrastructure to meet current production requirements while enabling future growth.
Working closely with Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, Facilities, Maintenance, Safety/EHS, Quality, Supply Chain, and Project Management, you will translate operational requirements into practical and accurate facility layouts. Your work will help ensure effective space utilization, regulatory compliance, workplace safety, and operational efficiency across the manufacturing environment.
How You'll Make an Impact
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize accurate 2D and 3D plant floor layouts using CAD and other applicable design tools, supporting machinery, production equipment, assembly areas, workstations, tooling, material storage, offices, and support areas.
  • Evaluate existing floor space and create current-state and future-state layouts that maximize space utilization while supporting safety, accessibility, operational requirements, process changes, production expansions, and facility modifications.
  • Ensure facility layouts comply with applicable OSHA requirements, building codes, fire codes, environmental requirements, and company safety standards, while supporting ergonomic considerations, material flow, and safe access to equipment and work areas.
  • Partner with Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, Facilities, Maintenance, Quality, EHS, Supply Chain, and Project Management teams to incorporate production, infrastructure, quality, and safety requirements into facility designs.
  • Support capital projects involving new equipment installations, production lines, facility modifications, and process relocations by developing conceptual, preliminary, and detailed layout drawings and participating in design reviews, installation planning, and implementation activities.
  • Conduct onsite verification of equipment locations, dimensions, utilities, and existing conditions, and maintain accurate as-built drawings and layout documentation following facility modifications.
  • Maintain controlled facility drawings, equipment footprint databases, revision histories, and visual documentation to ensure facility layouts accurately reflect current plant conditions and support effective communication with stakeholders.
What You Bring
  • Associate degree, technical certificate, or equivalent experience in Engineering Technology, Drafting, CAD Design, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor, Revit, or comparable CAD and 3D modeling software to develop and maintain facility layouts.
  • Working knowledge of workplace safety requirements, applicable facility standards, and the ability to incorporate safety, environmental, and ergonomic considerations into facility layouts.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, equipment specifications, dimensions, and technical documentation to support accurate facility planning and design.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with multiple departments and communicate layout concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail, spatial awareness, and the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a manufacturing environment.
