Job description

THE COMPANY
ROWE Professional Services Company, an employee-owned, full-service professional consulting firm specializing in civil engineering, surveying, aerial mapping, LIDAR, landscape architecture, planning and land development, is seeking an experienced Planner III to join our planning group. This role includes serving existing clients and collaborating with Senior Planners on business development. The position is based out of our Farmington Hills, MI office and offers a hybrid work arrangement with both in-person and remote options.
POSITION SUMMARY
ROWE is currently looking for a Planner III to join our team. This position will play a big role in growing our Planning team and will work under the supervision and guidance of a Senior Planner. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Updating/drafting a variety of community plans in areas such as land use, parks and recreation, zoning, and downtown development.
  • Support and develop public engagement strategies in all phases of Master Plan development.
  • Conducts research and report writing.
  • Serve as a point of contact for applicants and public officials for a limited subset of clients and projects, including planning, zoning, and compliance matters.
  • Build and manage client relationships, including reporting and billing.
  • Compile and analyze data and report out findings.
  • Develop maps using ArcGIS and prepare statistical tabulations, charts, graphs, etc.
  • Compile economic, social and physical factors data affecting land use.
  • Participate in and facilitate planning workshops/charrettes, public engagement meetings, public presentations, etc. in person or virtually.
  • Review proposed projects against ordinance regulations, draft ordinance amendments, respond to resident or developer questions and other day to day planning and zoning activities.
  • Attend regular planning commission, zoning board of appeals and elected official meetings, as needed.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance and to support development of staff.
  • Coordination with other design services staff including municipal engineers, landscape architects, administrative staff, and others.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
We are seeking forward-thinking, safety-conscious, and energetic individuals who are excited to work on both small-scale and large-scale projects. Qualifications include:
  • Bachelor's degree in Urban or Regional Planning or an equivalent field of study.
  • 6+ years relevant experience in planning
  • AICP required or must be able to obtain within agreed upon timeline.
  • Familiar with ArcGIS, Revit, Bluebeam REVU, Adobe Creative Suite and other programs typically used for planning purposes.
  • Significant experience in community planning for cities, townships and villages a plus.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of municipal planning with experience in researching and providing technical writing required to meet client needs.
  • Knowledgeable in master planning, zoning, and downtown planning a plus.
  • Available to attend night meetings, 1-4 a month.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, excellent analytical/judgement capabilities.
  • Ability to work independently or on a team.
  • Ability to work remote and in person effectively.
  • Willingness to learn and apply feedback.
