Job Title: In-House Scopist - steno
Location: Remote
Reports To: Director of Reporting Technology
Department: Steno Court Reporting
Shift: Monday through Friday, 11:00am to 8:00pm ET/ 8:00 am to 5:00 pm PT
FLSA Status: Nonexempt
We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented in-house scopist to support transcript production and quality initiatives across the Steno Department. This role is ideal for individuals with extensive court reporting and/or scoping experience who want consistent, meaningful work without the pressure of taking live jobs.
Our in-house scopists play a critical role in rescues, backlog reduction, quality control, and transcript integrity, working closely with court reporters, Client Services and Steno leadership. This position requires strong technical proficiency in Eclipse and/or Case CATalyst, attention to detail, excellent judgment, and the ability to step in quickly when urgent needs arise.
Transcript & Production Support
  • Handle rescue jobs and time-sensitive transcript needs.
  • Assist reporters with backlog reduction and deadline-driven work.
  • Perform corrected transcript review and analysis when clients ask that physical changes be made to a transcript. This includes comparison of the transcript to the errata received post-delivery and/or the relevant audio recording.
  • Review corrected transcripts received from reporters to ensure all requested corrections or edits have been properly addressed, either through transcript changes or appropriate notation.
  • Conduct transcript reviews to verify formatting, speaker identification, consistency, and compliance with client-requested specifications.
  • Create and maintain templates for various CAT software platforms for use by internal teams and reporters as needed.
  • Review and proofread transcripts as requested to maintain quality standards.
  • Flexibility with undertaking special projects and tasks as assigned.

Quality Control & Verification
  • Verify and evaluate client or reporter feedback and complaints arising during jobs, including reviewing video recordings and documenting relevant events.
  • Support database cleanup efforts to ensure all resource data is accurate and current.
  • Support maintenance of certified reporter lists following the release of test results.
  • Assist with dashboard maintenance by tracking reporter performance metrics as needed.

Transcription and Audio Support
  • Assist with transcription as needed.
  • Review audio files as requested.

Requirements
  • Extensive experience as a court reporter and/or professional scopist.
  • Proficiency in Eclipse and/or Case CATalyst (one required; both preferred).
  • Strong understanding of transcript production standards and best practices.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to work independently.
  • Strong proofreading and editing expertise supported by a high level of English language and grammar proficiency.
  • Proficient in reviewing audio and video recordings as part of the record review process.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
  • Ability to handle confidential material with professionalism.
  • Willing to provide flexible coverage, including evenings and weekends, in alignment with business needs.
  • Experience working within a court reporting agency in this capacity is strongly preferred
