Job description

SUMMARY: The Piping Foreman is responsible for the leading a team to layout, assemble, install, and maintain pipe systems, pipe supports, and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, and industrial production and processing systems, applying knowledge of system operation, and following blueprints.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Lead a crew of pipefitters and welders, providing guidance, and ensuring adherence to safety protocols and project requirements.
  • Must be able to interpret blueprints, specifications, and other technical documents to guide pipefitting work.
  • Must have strong knowledge of pipefitting materials, tools and equipment, including cutting, threading, and joining pipes.
  • Assisting in the training of less experienced pipefitters and providing guidance on best practices.
  • Must be able to demonstrate comprehension of Mechanical piping systems such as supply and return, equipment flues and ventilation, system isolation and equipment protection.
  • Must be competent in piping methods including brazing, soft soldering, gluing, and heat fusion
  • Promote and enforce safe work practices, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to safety regulations.
  • Must have familiarity in different welding processes, such as Arc welding (SMAW), Tungsten Inert Gas welding (TIG/GTAW), and Oxy-Acetylene welding and cutting.
  • Layout and fabricate various piping systems
  • Pre-plan and schedule work processes
  • Select type and size of pipe, and related materials and equipment, such as supports, and hangers according to specifications
  • Familiar with various welding/piping techniques best practices
  • Supervise and lead others.
  • Inspect completed work to ensure it meets quality standards and specifications.
  • Identify and resolve issues that arise during project.
  • Ensure that project schedule deadlines.
  • Competent in best rigging practices for setting commercial HVAC equipment
  • Must Keep all daily paperwork updated - safety report and project completion forms
  • Communicate with Superintendents, Project Managers and Engineering Team regarding project progress and details.
  • Assemble and install variety of metal and nonmetal pipes, tubes, and fittings, including iron, steel, copper, and plastic
  • Represent Brady in face-to-face communications with customers and subcontractors
  • Must be able to work at heights from a ladder or aerial work platform
  • Follow all safety regulations and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Assists other team members with job duties as necessary
  • Ability to travel to customer locations
  • Ability to work weekends and/or evenings as necessary

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

(Project Based) Directly supervises field team during project. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems with Field Superintendent

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Five + years related experience and/or training.
  • Two years of trade school in pipefitting or equivalent training, preferred
  • OSHA 30 certification
  • Proficiency with computer devices (including laptops, tablets and smart phones) and working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and Apple iOS software.
  • Ability to pass drug screening.
  • Ability to prove US employment eligibility.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & ENVIRONMENTAL EXPOSURE

Physical Demands:

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, stoop, crouch, kneel, squat, balance, and climb, with occasional sitting and lying.
  • Requires working in confined/constricted spaces and at elevated heights (e.g., ladders, scaffolding, rooftops).
  • Material handling demands include lifting from floor level to overhead and maneuvering in tight or awkward spaces.
  • Ability to lift and carry or otherwise move:

o Up to 25 pounds constantly

o Up to 50 pounds occasionally

o Over 50 pounds only with mechanical assistance or team lift, following safety protocols

  • Associates are expected to lift no more than 50 pounds independently, unless assisted by appropriate equipment or a team lift.
  • Team lifts are required for any load exceeding 50 pounds per individual, with clear communication protocols, including verbal confirmation and coordinated movements, to ensure safety.
  • Must always follow proper lifting techniques and safety protocols.
  • Frequent use of hands and wrists for repetitive tasks such as tool use, wiring, or securing fasteners.
  • Must have sufficient hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity to use hand tools, power tools, and electronic diagnostic equipment.
  • Must be able to work at heights.
  • Must be able to climb and perform tasks while positioned on ladders.
  • Regularly required to use hands to operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and perceive verbal instructions and warnings in a high-noise industrial environment (above 85 dBA), while wearing required hearing protection.
  • Vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must have the physical capacity to work extended hours, including overtime and weekends, during peak demand or emergency service periods.
  • Position is classified in the Heavy Physical Demand Classification (PDC).

ENVIRONMENTAL EXPOSURE:

  • Regularly exposed to mechanical/equipment rooms, rooftops, and drop ceilings.
  • Occasionally required to work in extreme outdoor conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow) and unconditioned indoor spaces.
  • The employee may occasionally be exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious locations; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. All exposures occur within regulated safety limits, and appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is provided.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE) REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must wear appropriate PPE, including but not limited to: safety glasses, safety-toed boots, hard hats, high-visibility vests or shirts, task-specific gloves, fall protection harness and hearing protection, as required by the work environment.
  • Hard hats are required when working in areas with potential overhead hazards.
  • Specialized PPE (e.g., respirators, arc-rated clothing, fall protection) may be required depending on task-specific hazards, and training will be provided as needed.
  • All PPE must comply with OSHA standards and be inspected daily for proper condition, fits appropriately, and is free of defects.
