Overview
The faculty member will provide student instruction in the areas of education and experience for the Physician Assistant Program. Faculty members act as an advocate for the program and represent the program at state, national, and regional meetings. All individuals that are clinical faculty members have the option to maintain clinical practice one day a week.
Position Summary
Provides student instruction in the areas of education and experience. The position requires the individual to possess the knowledge and clinical skills needed to conduct the curriculum of the PA program. This includes but is not limited to:
  • Design curriculum
  • Coordinate curriculum
  • Evaluate curriculum
  • Course instruction
  • Evaluate student performance
  • Student advising
  • Identify students who are not achieving course and program objectives
  • Assist with reviewing and developing the program mission statement annually
  • Ensure the availability of remedial instruction
  • Maintain knowledge and skills associated with current practice standards

Responsibilities
Teaching
  • Develop, analyze, assess, and evaluate didactic and clinical course objectives, learning outcomes, content, syllabi, course, and sequence of material across the curriculum.
  • Create, edit, review, and analyze assessment tools and student performance.
  • Provide feedback to students regarding assessment performance, and devise remediation plans when needed.
  • Submit grades timely and as required.
  • Mentor other faculty members

Service
  • Attend meetings as required
  • Chair committees as assigned
  • Assist with new student orientation
  • Serve on PA search committees as assigned
  • Attend state meetings yearly and PAEA or AAPA every year
  • Provide ongoing assessment of program with ARC-PA assignments
  • Serve on campus-wide committees as assigned
  • Attend Continuing Medical Education meetings as required
  • Adhere to policies and procedures of the University, School of Medicine, and PA program

Program
  • Meet with prospective students
  • Promote and sustain graduate level of academic culture
  • Participate in and contribute to program duties as assigned
  • Provide advising to physician assistant students
  • Attend all program events (eg., white coat ceremony, graduation)
  • Participate in interviewing applicants as assigned for admission to the Marshall University PA Program
  • Participate in program committees as assigned
  • Assist with developing, reviewing, and revising, if necessary, the mission statements for the program
  • Post regular office hours devoted to the program
  • Participate through the Self-Assessment Committee in administering and evaluating the program
  • Other duties as assigned

Scope of Authority
  • The faculty member reports to the Program Director of the Marshall University Physician Assistant Program.

Location MUSOM - Marshall University School of Medicine Salary Range Salary is commensurate with experience, education, and internal equity
Qualifications
Must be able to perform all essential job duties as outlined in the job description.
Required Qualifications
Education
  • Must be a Physician Assistant or physician
  • If a physician assistant, must be a graduate from an accredited physician assistant program and have a minimum master's degree (terminal degree). Current NCCPA Board Certification and eligibility for PA licensure in the state of West Virginia.
  • If a physician, must be licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of West Virginia. Current Board Certification and eligibility in the state of West Virginia.
Experience
  • Computer and information literacy
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and communication skills
  • Minimum three years clinical practice and/or teaching in a PA program preferred
