Description:
RN position in the Emergency Department.
Facility has 637 licensed beds and a Level 1 Trauma designation.
The department includes 61 beds plus surge beds.
The patient census averages over 61.
Common patient diagnoses include chest pain, strokes, diabetes, abdominal pain, motor vehicle collisions, hypertension, stabbings, and mental health issues.
Patient ratios are typically 1 RN to 4 patients, which may vary depending on the assigned zone.
Support staff includes CNAs, unit secretaries, charge nurses, phlebotomy, and a rapid response team.
Core skills required include emergency room nursing for Level 1 trauma cases.
Experience with IV drips such as heparin, insulin, cardene, dopamine, epinephrine, fentanyl, propofol, and levophed is necessary.
Technology in use includes EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and Philips monitors.
The unit operates with a focus on teamwork despite being busy.
Weekend rotation consists of 5-6 weekends out of 12 on a 6-week schedule.
