Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (Cardiology Stepdown) position requiring 2 years of stepdown acute care experience and a GA or compact RN license.

Details
  • Acute care hospital setting on the Cardiology Stepdown Unit (4A/4B)
  • 4A focuses on cardiothoracic and cardiovascular surgery patients while 4B handles smaller procedures, drips, and CHF patients
  • 44-bed unit including 8 semiprivate rooms, with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5 and nurse aide ratio of 1:10
  • Common diagnoses include POD #1 CABG, cardiovascular surgery, fem-pop bypass, arteriogram, CEA, thoracotomy, VATS, EVAR, AAA repair, carotid endarterectomy, stent placement, pacemaker, ablation, AICD, CHF, and afib with RVR
  • Manages drips including Cardizem, amiodarone, dobutamine, dopamine (renal dose), Lasix, Bumex, heparin, Primacor, and Vaprisol
  • Utilizes BiPap, CPAP (only during sleep hours), Vapotherm, and high-flow oxygen; no full ventilator management
  • Uses Philips telemetry monitoring and nurses must be able to read and interpret strips
  • Fast room turnover with average census of 32-38 patients and 12-16 admissions/discharges per busy shift
  • Charts using MEDITECH EMR
  • 12-hour day shifts (6:45am-6:45pm)
  • Every other weekend required
  • Must be flexible to work holidays and days surrounding holidays as needed
  • Floating to ICU required, limited to stepdown-level patients unless ICU experience is noted on contract
  • 3 shifts of floor-specific orientation provided
  • In-house Hospitalist/Intensivist coverage 24/7, along with 24/7 RT, Pharmacy, and a dedicated IV/PICC team
Requirements
  • Active GA or compact RN license required
  • Current certifications in BLS (AHA), ACLS, and NIHSS
  • Minimum 2 years of Stepdown experience in an acute care setting required without exception
  • Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips
  • Preferred ability to pull pacer wires; orientation provided if not previously trained
  • Must be comfortable floating to ICU and taking on ICU-level tasking if unable to accept ICU patients
  • Copy of driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
  • Provide direct nursing care to cardiac stepdown patients including post-surgical and cardiovascular monitoring
  • Work under a Charge Nurse (Clinical Supervisor) structure
  • Scrub color required: Caribbean Blue
  • Dress code requires natural-colored hair, no fake nails or shellac, no facial piercings, and no visible tattoos
  • Cancellation policy allows for 12 hours every 2 weeks
  • Must reside at least 75 miles from the facility to be eligible for placement
  • Not eligible for placement if previously employed by the facility within the last 12 months
  • Located in Albany, GA, approximately 175 miles from Atlanta, 88 miles from Tallahassee, FL, and 134 miles from Shell Point Beach, FL
