Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry float pool position at a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital in Macon, GA, requiring at least 2 years of Med/Tele experience and proficiency in cardiac drips.

Details
  • Works across all Med/Surg Telemetry units in a float pool capacity within a 637-licensed-bed Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital
  • Hospital is also designated as a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center
  • Each Med/Surg unit has between 20–36 beds
  • General inpatient Med/Surg and Telemetry patient population
  • RN-to-patient ratio of 1:4–6
  • Central telemetry unit provides monitoring support
  • 12-hour night shifts, 7P–7A, 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend (EOW) rotation required
  • Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
  • EMR: Epic (experience preferred)
  • IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Pyxis; monitors: Philips; vitals: VS3 monitors; glucose: Nova Stat Strips
Requirements
  • Active GA or Compact RN license currently in hand
  • BLS required; ACLS preferred (EKG competency exam required during onboarding)
  • Med/Surg certification is a plus
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Telemetry RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Proficiency in cardiac drips required, including insulin drips, heparin drips, and drips titrated to heart rate
  • Skills required: trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, and glucometer use
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
Additional Information
  • RNs are responsible for drawing labs from CVLs; most units use lab collect phlebotomy for other draws
  • Support staff includes CNAs (vitals, glucose checks, baths, ambulation, turning, feeding), a unit secretary (on-unit 7A–11P, house-wide after), charge nurse, discharge nurses, and a resource float team
  • PICC team available; no general IV team on staff
  • Respiratory therapy, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage available 24/7
  • Orientation consists of 1 day of general facility orientation with educational modules followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
  • RN scrub color is navy blue
  • Free parking is available around campus
  • Unit culture is described as busy and team-oriented
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Candidates who previously worked a permanent position at an AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible
