Job description

 We are seeking a Pharmacy Purchasing Agent, sometimes referred to as a Pharmacy Purchasing Representative, Pharmacy Purchasing Coordinator or Pharmacy Purchasing Technician in our Pharmacy department. Our Pharmacy Purchasing Agent is responsible for managing the procurement and inventory of medications and pharmaceutical supplies to ensure the pharmacy operates efficiently and cost-effectively. The Pharmacy Purchasing Agent directly supports patient care by ensuring essential medications are always available, properly stored, and compliant with regulations.

Shifts Available: Days

Hours: 8-hour shifts

Location: Harlingen Medical Center - Harlingen, Texas

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (includes, but not limited to):

  • Purchase medications and pharmaceutical supplies from approved vendors based on hospital formulary and patient care needs
  • Monitor inventory levels, track usage trends, rotate stock, and prevent medication shortages or expirations
  • Coordinate with wholesalers and distributors to negotiate pricing, resolve delivery issues, and ensure timely shipments
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies and pharmacy regulations including The Joint Commission, DEA, and FDA standards
  • Collaborate with pharmacy staff and supply chain teams to maintain accurate records, support audits, and manage budgets effectively

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING
 
1. At least 2 years of pharmacy purchasing and inventory management experience.
2. High school diploma or equivalent required.
3. Undergraduate degree in Inventory/Supply Chain Management preferred.
4. Graduate of ASHP-accredited or equivalent pharmacy technician training program preferred
5. Working knowledge of computers and basic computer programs including Excel and Word.
