Job description

Job Purpose: Under general supervision, the Pharmacy Technician will work with physicians and management to provide optimal care and customer service to our patients.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Under the direct supervision of the registered physician, procures, prepares, packages, distributes and disposes medication to assist the organization in providing quality pharmaceutical care for all patients.
  • Responsible for providing pharmaceutical care to all the Georgia Urology offices with efficiency and accuracy by servicing all patients and staff needs.
  • Notifying providers and clinicians of any drug recalls and assist with questions regarding formulary and non-formulary items and which pharmacy their patients can get their prescribed medications from.
  • Works closely with the Advanced Prostate Cancer Team by providing proper documentation on the patient's medication compliance, medication side effects, and medication reconciliation.
  • Maintains pharmacy inventory by keeping up with par levels, anticipating needs by placing and expediting orders, and verifying receipt.
  • Conducts regular quality assurance inspections for proper dispensing practices, including examining product integrity and checking expiration dates.
  • Maintains competency and follows departmental, OSHA, USP, DEA and EPA guidelines to safely handle, prepare, distribute, and dispose of hazardous and non-hazardous products.
  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
  • Maintains accurate records and patient profiles including charging and crediting
  • Processing insurance claims and working closely with the financial specialist to secure GRANTS or copay assistance to patients with prescription balances.
  • Understands and implements appropriate time management and prioritizing of tasks to ensure safe practices by delivering medication to patients and staff in a timely manner.
  • May serve as a resource for less experienced staff, providing technical information and guidance in pharmacy techniques and policies to ensure the delivery of efficient quality service.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience:
  • High School diploma, or equivalent required.
  • Successful completion of an ASHP accredited technician training program or enrollment in a professional-related school preferred
  • Current CPhT certification through PTCB or NHA and active Georgia pharmacy technician license, or current enrollment in an accredited school of pharmacy with a current Georgia pharmacy intern license.
  • Must maintain certification and license through entire length of employment
  • Previous experience in a retail pharmacy, for a minimum of 2 years.
  • Previous experience as a Pharmacy Technician for a minimum of 5 years.
  • Oncology experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of MS Office and medical software applications.
  • A valid State of Georgia Driver's License and reliable transportation is required.
