Job description


As a Pharmacy Assistant you are responsible for assisting the Pharmacists & Pharmacy Technicians in completing the following daily tasks and activities

Job Activities: the activities listed below are subject to change.

  • Assist in the compounding of medications according to the formula provided by the Pharmacist and weigh and process ingredients correctly following provided formula worksheet specifications.
  • Weigh and measure suitable capsules according to Quality Assurance & Control measures
  • Count, Package and label prepared compounds in suitable dispensing tool, as directed by Pharmacists
  • Place and confirm that โ€œbeyond use dateโ€ on patientโ€™s product label is correct.
  • Make outgoing calls to schedule medication deliveries, mailings & obtain proper billing and demographic information and to up patient history information.
  • Execute, as directed, quality assurance procedures on assigned randomly sampled scripts and document results following standards.
  • Accept prescriptions for filing, gathering, and processing necessary information.
  • As directed, perform daily cleaning and log maintenance in accordance to established policy.
  • Assist in maintaining proper calibration of all equipment, including freezer/fridge temperatures and weights on scales at workstation.
  • Develop and maintain a good working relationship with all staff, suppliers, and clients.
  • Attend staff meetings and safety meetings, as requested.
  • Attend applicable workshops and other learning opportunities to strengthen knowledge and promote professional growth in this role.
  • Adhere to company health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to improvement of company processes and standards.
  • Other duties or special projects, as assigned.

Skills, Education and Experience: The following lists the minimum or desired skills, education and experience required for the role of Pharmacy Assistant:

  • No direct pharmacy experience is required. Training will be provided.
  • Ability to obtain State Pharmacy Assistant license.
  • High School Diploma.
  • Experienced in the use of prescription production and management software, systems, and tools.
  • Effective oral and verbal communication with co-staff, pharmacists, and the public.
  • Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong ability to perform optimally in a team setting.
  • Ability to excel while performing multiple tasks with proficiency.

Physical Requirements:

  • Proficient in using a computer and related equipment, including printers and fax machines.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Effective communication skills via telephone and email.
  • Capable of lifting up to 30 pounds as needed.
  • Perform duties while wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
