POSITION TITLE: Pharmacy Assistant
CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt
DEPARTMENT: Tribal Health
SUPERVISOR: Pharmacy Director
GRADE: NE8 $16.49 ($34,299.20) - $24.73 ($51,438.40)
Position Summary:
Under direct supervision the Pharmacy Assistant assists in providing quality care to Washoe Tribal Health Center (WTHC) patients and within the scope and the daily functioning of the Washoe Tribal Health Center's Pharmacy department. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
• Responsible for operating cash register and accepting prescriptions for filling.
• Responsible for receipt and stocking of orders for incoming medication, pharmacy supplies and other related department materials.
• Responsible for returning to stock medications that have not been picked up by patients.
• Accountable for medication outdates inventory on a timely and consistent schedule.
• Responsible for inventory and stocking of vials, bottles, medications and other department related supplies.
• Responsible for timely return of medication to stock, receiving all patient calls, ordering medication refills, directing phone calls to the appropriate pharmacy staff, liaison between pharmacists and patients.
• Responsible for organizing files for easy reference and retrieval.
• Responsible for effectively communicating with patients regarding their medications and any refill requirements that might be needed.
• Assists in measuring units, labels packages and initiates proper storage.
• Assists the pharmacist and other pharmacy personnel with telephone calls, patient requests and other related communications.
• Assist the pharmacist and other pharmacy personnel with yearly inventory.
• Maintains Pharmacy and storage areas in a clean, neat condition by, including cleaning of all equipment.
• Responsible for data entry in all required pharmacy and Electronic Health Record (EHR) data software programs.
• Must be able to respect and adhere to the most rigid and strict rules of employer/tribal member/public citizen practice of confidentiality.
• Prefer knowledge of: brand and generic names of drugs, medical terminology and abbreviations, classes of drugs and narcotic category and limitations.
• Knowledge of records management procedures.
• Ability to operate pharmacy and EHR software.
• Ability to obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within six months of hire.
• Ability and skills to effectively interview patients and to write clearly.
• Ability to be patient with the elderly and with all patients.
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and other personnel.
• Ability to communicate effectively in the English language both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
• Skill in operating business computers and office machines, including in a Windows environment, specifically Word, Excel, Access, and presentation software (such as PowerPoint).
• Performs other duties as required.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
• High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED).
• Must possess and maintain a valid California or Nevada driver's license or capable of obtaining one within thirty-days (30) of employment.
• Must be able to be insurable by the Tribe's Driving Policy.
• Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background investigation.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to sit and stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee occasionally is required to operate a motor vehicle; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment:
Work is generally performed in an office or pharmacy setting with a moderate noise level.
The Washoe Tribe of Nevada & California requires a background check of each new hire for employment purposes. Therefore, all conditionally offered positions will be subject to the following:
  • Negative alcohol and drug screen
  • Meet requirements of Public Law 101-630
  • Obtain or possess a valid driver's license for either the state of Nevada or California within 30 days
  • Must be insurable under the Washoe Tribe's driving policy
